The old company, Bombardier Aerospace, makes these. They don't "motor around" to fill the tanks, they touch down at approach speed, open the fill scoops, add lots of power, and the tanks fill in seconds.... There's one scene in the film where you can see the two tank level gauges rapidly go up. The other neat thing is watching the magnitude of the flight control inputs, especially aileron, as they are maneuvering down low.

Speed of light is greater than speed of sound. Some people seem very bright until U hear them speak

Cool!!!!
Coincidentally I was looking yesterday at pictures of a model of that plane being built and wondered what the two retractable brass pipes were for...

Very cool.............

Also wondered about the 'fight' w the ailerons, or just part of the
technique for getting the load to the target??

Down low in between the hills with all the hot air from the fires and wind blowing, you can be sure that there'll be a LOT of turbulence throwing the plane around. Those inputs are needed to get the load on target.

CL-415. Bombardier Aerospace is not that old !

These aircraft come from Canadair (in many countries they are even called 'Canadair' which is the first Aerospace company bought by Bombardier to create their Aerospace division (later joined by Learjet, DeHavilland and Shorts).

On a side note, sadly no one in the USA wants to buy this very useful airplane.

The added heat from the fires, seriously takes away the one thing that a wing of any kind "needs", to make lift. DENSITY!!! The reason the control inputs are so extreme may be due to turbulence and from the lack of air moving across the control surfaces which density provides. A job such as this, is truly made for the marriage of man and machine. The pilot needs to know his plane and every quirk about her.
