I recently picked up a hatori gasser muffler on here and I put two flights on it. today I was checking to make sure it's still tight and noticed a crack around where the header is welded to the can part of it. anyone know if hatori would fix it for me?

I just had the same trouble with mine , they replaced it with no trouble . only had less than 2 gallons fuel run thru it . I received a email from them stating that it was caused by running the engine RPM over 14K . since the motor was still running in the break in stage it never saw anything over 12,500 RPM .

i do not use the hatoris any longer.
They are not the same they used to be.

I use the stainless zimmermann steel ones, no more problems since then.

i like hatori pipes i have them on almost all my nitro's. they are the only ones i know of with a 2yr warrenty. looking at the pipe with my knowledge of welding it seems to me that the weld was a little too hot and caused the material next to the bead brittle and crack. i really like this gasser pipe its quiet and still makes great power.

There are a few reports of the new style Hatori gasser mufflers not holding up.

So
RJX can split in half
Century V2 internal tips can break away
Century V5's can plug up
New Hatori's can crack

And
Old hatoris can plug up also, the tailpipe is too small any buildup will restrict the 27cc motor (this happened to me) and with a 29cc it may not be enough volume out as it is brand new.

So far, due to process of elimination, my best bet has been either the century v2 or the rear mount zimmerman - the mufflers I use today.

Zimmerman
Well here's my Zimmerman side mount after around 6-8 gal.

Zimmerman declined to replace .. And specifically asked me if I used it on a gasser. I replied that it was a gasser pipe.. yes . They stated gassers have too many vibes and would not replace. The other fact with the Zimmermans is that they are not available. Can't seem to find them..

Old hatoris can plug up also
particularly if you use a pre-mix oil that results in excessive exhaust deposits

Well I've replaced both mine with Hatori's. One old version and one new version. They are holding up and running great so far but very little time on each right now. The big question will be support if something does happen.

I also ave Hatori's on all my nitros as well. Never been an issue at all. (that I didn't cause myself.. lol)

Yeah

Well this popular oil doesn't work with these mufflers. Amsoil before this caused too much carbon on the motors, this oil doesn't cause hardly any carbon but can plug up mufflers that have small holes in them.

Maybe your Motul is better, who knows, but it needs to be flown alot to find out and its always like the hunt for the best oil out there, right now what I'm using works well with the V2 and zimmerman so I'm not too worried about it and to be honest the Hatori made less power then the v2 and needed 4 bolts to mount / 2 seals instead of 2 so it wasn't as desirable anyways, plus it weighed 6+oz more.

to be honest the Hatori made less power then the v2
perhaps with the engines that you run. With other motors mileage will vary

With my engines or with your engines its the same, I've tested the old Hatori muffler, I have not however tested the new one with the different header mount.

Anyone notice the muffler JR sends with the new GSR260Z fbl heli? Carey Shurley did a build of the heli and that muffler looked like a good design. Not sure if it would fit on other models but I think it might. Not sure where to buy one either though.

I think you guys need to get over the noise and just use the stock muffler. That's all I've used and I haven't had to do anything with my muffler for years. Works great just a little loud but I'm used to it. I will admit I'm starting to like the idea of electric these days. So quiet and way less vibration. Just seems so much easier but I only have a 450 electric so nothing big.

With my engines or with your engines its the same
And thats your opinion and you're entitled to it. Its based on your method of testing, which is simply measuring max head speed during climb outs. Like all testing methods this method has flaws in it.

one of them is that you probably use the same helicopter configuration regardless of which engine you're testing (especially gear ratios). The modifiers all follow different tuning philosophies so things like gear ratios, exact blade size even air cleaner restriction can make a difference in the results. One may benefit or be degraded from one change or another.

Don't get me wrong, what you're doing is certainly a method to compare a set of data points but it doesn't mean as you imply that its the only method that counts

For example with another method of testing, something like an engine dyno which is independent of helicopter configuration you would see very different results between the mufflers on individual engines. This of course isn't perfect either but its another set of data points.
