The German built v1's I believe had some crude gyro. The allied forces would fly along side of the v1, If they could intercept and catch it in time and use the tip of their plane wing to flip the v1, so it would crash, but sometimes it did not work. I guess the gyro worked somewhat to keep it level. But they relied on trajectory and fuel to make it to a good crash spot to explode.

People are confusing ramjets and pulsejets in this thread. They are not the same thing and operate in a completely different way. Ramjets use forward motion to compress air into the combustion chamber and must be traveling at mach 0.5 or higher to produce usable thrust. They are most efficient at above mach 2 and are capable of speeds up to around mach 6. Unlike pulsejets they are very efficient thanks to their high compression even more so than turbojets.

The engines SR-71 Blackbird, the fastest air breathing plane ever built were ramjets with a turbojet "core" who's only purpose was to accelerate the aircraft above mach 0.5 after which the spike on the engine inlet was retracted on a jackscrew and the airflow to the turbojet cut off while the outer shell of the turbojet acted as part the inlet compressor with the incoming air squeezed between it and the outer shell of the main ramjet engine before being directed into the combustion chamber. Compression was purely from the forward motion of the aircraft and the shape of the inlets alone. At those speeds a turbine face would simply be blasted apart.

This thing was designed in the late 50's without computers, on slide rules and graph paper, and it worked. Just brilliant engineering that set a speed record for a piloted air breathing airplane that has not been broken to this day.

that's hitlers V-1 buzzbomb, in real time if the noise stopped you better run like hell All seriousness aside HK indeed has produced their own pulse jet making it very affordable and even comes with a buzz box. In the old days we used a Model T coil and tire pump to fire these mothers off, they burn white gas or kerosene or unleaded, take your choice. Go to rcgroups and search for dynajet and youll these crazy things run.

I live 15 miles from the US warehouse and have been buggin them to get these things in, so will see. For $100 ya cant go wrong

CAUTION!!! politicians may be hazerdous to your well being

Pulse jets are cool but these things had no throttle control so I guess you fly at whatever speed you get from them?...what about landing?

showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...

Wow indeed!!!
The Aurora, does anyone know about this airframe? As cheap as the pulses are it would be cool to do a project for one of these.
