top starting raptor 90
Has anybody done the conversion to allow top starting the raptor? I want to do this conversion from a write-up on it but I can not locate the bearing that goes in the clutch bell. The conversion utilizes the stock raptor starter shaft. The write up says "need to acquire an SMR686-ZZ bearing, thats a 6x16x3.5mm sheilded bearing" and this goes in place of the stock bearing in the bell.

However, when contacting boca bearings, the dimensions do not match. Anybody know where to get the correct bearing and what the correct bearing dimensions are? Thanks

The entire raptor line comes with top start - no conversion. There is a one-way bearing in the clutch, so you only need a starter with a hex fitting.

Are you specifically speaking about your gasser conversion and wanting to change it to top start?

If so, what gas conversion kit are you going with? Any pics of the clutch stack?

I removed the clutch block from my conversion and measured the top bearing. Its this one:

MR696-ZZ Radial Bearings
6 x 15 x 5 Millimeters

This is installed in the TT aluminum block, there's enough room for a 6mm wide bearing in there as well although you'd have to grind on the start shaft flat

I am going to do the helibug gasser conversion. The stock conversion kit does not allow for top starting the raptor anymore. However, there is a write-up on how to rework so you can continue to top start. However, you must change the bearing inside the clutch bell (right by the clutch liner). The clutch bell in the conversion kit is an align 700N clutch bell. This is the bearing i am trying to locate, not for the clutch stack bearing block. However the part number and dimensions in the initial post do not jive. Heli770, is the link you posted the bearing I need for inside the 700N bell or is that for the raptor bell?

By the way, I only have my airframe on the way and didn't order the other parts yet so that is why I can't figure this out for myself just yet.

If I remember correctly, the stock Raptor 90 uses a 5mm start shaft. The Align start shaft is 6mm. The ID is what has to changeProprietor - Gas Powered Helicopters

Great, that makes sense. It shows an OD of 13mm which matches the origional write-up part number. I believe the write-up OD of 16mm is incorrect, that was what kept confusing me.
