I'm very interested in going back to nitro for next year.
The NX4 got my interest over all over nitro.
What are the real facts on these issues ?
Please avoid the "mine has been running perfectly" etc ..., not that I'm not interested by your experience, just that seeing the number of issues on this model on these particular points on different forums in North America and Europe ...
Those who had problem(s), what was the core cause and how can we fix it to make the machine more reliable in time ?
BTW my X4 II has develop in less than 10 flight a lot of play, is it common to Gaui quality ? Never seen this even on other machines and I've seen some in 15 years .... and far away to be impressed except for the smoothness of the machine ....

Thanks for your constructive inputs, lets make a list of core cause / fix to help all NX4 users / future users

Thanks

i dun have a nx4 yet BUT thus far, the only issue I read abt would be the tail pitch slider being over-tightened by the factory. Other than that, everyone seems to be loving this little dynamo. Subscribed.

Thanks,

I've read about the tail hub breaking, the clutch breaking and locking the entire rotor head, good luck with autorotation ! Heard about swash play after couple of flight ....
At this price, even if only machine of this type, it's just too much.
I also know forums are full of wrong informations sometimes so ... what is due to the design of the machine and what is due to bad assembly ...

Hi Flydynamics, I certainly hope that the issues stated in other forums are somewhat exaggerated. This baby is NOT cheap and it really should not be having all these purported issues.

oh dear, this sounds really scary. But are all these faults solely due to gaui or would the owners hv to bear some responsibility at their end? I m very keen to learn more about the tail slider issue though. Who did Gaui employ to tighten the part? Arnie?

They probabaly use CA to tighten the head (I have a Gaui X4 II, and this tightening job is ridiculously un mechanical !) with a 3ft metallic bar to make sure you will not be able to untighten it ....
This is also ridiculous .... But ehm, we keep buying so why bother changing !...

I have 2 of these kits, the second one was for spare parts.

IMO the head was very difficult to get apart,

my tail pitch slider did break, a tail hub broke, and clutch broke,
the clutch bell has wobble. the swash was separating.
both of my kits were from the early release.

My advise if your building the model,

google search the clutch bell mod to remove the wobble.

remove the tail hub and replace with new,

as for the tail slider, I modified a raptor one to replace the stock one.

I would remove the liner and replace with new setting the gap with one wrap of elec tape. I do this with all my nitro's now, my clutch did break when I was running the factory installed liner.

never fixed the wobble on mine yet,
If you bump the tail on the ground, do boom damage, ect. replace the tail hub, it's only a 2 or 3$ part.
order a spare clutch, and carry a set of spare landing gear with your nitro gear.

boom supports where they mount to the frame, I used a nut instead of the spacer, and also used glue from the bolt head to the frame, lots of vibration in that area.

Now that my issues are a thing of the past, regular maintenance and inspections, It's been getting a few flights per week again.
working on fine tuning the FBL controller now, with there was a FB head for this thing.

the ball link ends on the motor linkage, and tail linkage wear fast, maybe from the nitro, heat, dirt, ect.

I put a raptor ball on the tail bell crank on the tail gear box, and it's locked in place with a washer.
Check the throttle linkages for wear.

Nasty, thanks for your feedbacks, I'm just gonna stay away from it as you are not the first one to tell me about the issues you had. Too many problems. At this price, the kit should be flawless !
I have a X4 II, quality is the same as align, not that impressed with Gaui.

Lol, don't want you to get scared away from the model,
Knowing what all the possible things that could cause a problem or is a problem, fixing those during the build would make it a great build.

Maybe they fixed all the new production kits, but you may get a kit that was sitting on the shelf for a year.

I understand that we are paying a premium for the kit, but it's the only kit of this size that is in production, the price of the kit is dropping in price, so is the replacement parts.

I hate when a model breaks during flight,, but with the changes that I mentioned, I actually trust my nx4 to give me 200 or more problem free flights. I now expect, bearing wear, ball link wear, fuel line wear, and skid breakage from bad auto's.
No plans of getting rid of mine anytime soon.

Odd how when you state you want to only hear from people who have had problems, you get bad reports and get scared away.

I never said I wanted to hear ONLY about ppl having problem I just wanted to get rid of all rep and seller of the brand writing that their model walk on water with no single issues at all, crash and go back in the air just after crash .... things I've already read everywhere until I really ask ppl about the problem encountered.
I'm not scared away, I just like to avoid problems .... very easy to understand I think.
I also received tons of PM, from ppl sharing their not so good experience, thanks to them to share this with me .... All those informations combined made me make the decision to stay away from this model ... too bad, 1st of his kind ... well ... yeah ....
I'm in RC business since 5 years old, more than 30 years, competed in Pattern plane, FAI F3C helicopter and I see this little expensive toys now as hobby not problem makers so I'm OK to fix something but when some parts are breaking due to bad design I want to know it to stay away from a particular model as I can't redesign the machine. Luckily we are living in a century where we can share experience ... Nasty listed his problems, problems I've heard from other in North America and Europe, each time I've ask someone about this little guy I've heard the same problems coming back... oh sorry, not true, some reps told me it was the best machine they ever had 100% problem free ;-)
hope that clarify a bit my intentions ...

Thanks to all for your contributions.

I must admit that flydynamics has a very valid point,
when I was at Ircha talking to some Gaui representatives, some said there has been problems but very few, like 1 or 2 instances.
then there was others who said they never heard of any problems.
Kinda makes me feel stupid. "thanks i need that"

Out of the 9 Heli events that I attended this year the only time I saw someone representing Gaui was at IRCHA. The only other Nx4 that was in the air at any of the events was one of the guys I travel with.
I told them about the poor non existent representation here in the NE.

almost every FF that I fly the nx4 at there is always a few people waiting for me to fly it, or they ask when I'm going to fly it again.
so there is interest in the model around here.

Only flew it one time at center stage, LOL about half way into the flight the tail hub broke, Never got any responses for the email I sent out about that one, not even, "sorry to hear about your misfortune"
what ever,

It is now my beater heli, I show it no mercy now, because I don't respect it anymore, It keeps on ticking, or for the last 60 flights it has. when all my spare parts are gone, who knows.. time will tell.

Strange because there was nothing wrong with the old one,

I am interested to make a nx4 into a nx5 but what I really want to know is, how reliable are the parts are they cheaply made like Align or are they closer to min-air quality?

spending time, paying attention

IMO I don't think Gaui quality is bad, the parts are light weight, strong, and look great, they have that mass produced look, not the one man operating a lathe look.
I think there will be a nx5 in the future, as the x5 is a very popular machine. It might revive all the old os50's out there,
I'll get a nx5,nx6,nx7, what ever the next one is,
Just hope the canopy has a little extra room inside.
