We looked today, no luck. Its not that bad of a time looking for it though- im getting exercise. The field near it got mowed for its annual fall mowing in that past day or 2, Im thinking of contacting the forest preserve and offering a reward to the mower whos about to do this field. Its basically a write off though, Its supposed to rain tomorrow, and walking through tall wet grass isnt something im gonna do. The trees are in a u shape and I was at the center of the horseshoe so it is possible that its up in a tree and thats the best case scenario given the mower/tractor field harvester.

I had a friend hover where I was while I was out in the grass for me to guestimate distance till I lost orientation. Im still covering miles out there so tomorrow im gonna stand where I was piloting and have him fly a 550 in the field till it looks like where I lost it, the tres in the way is why its complicated...

I know it might be a long shot but is there anywhere local to you where you might be able to hire a long range metal detector?

It's either in a tree, or not where you think it should be. Maybe your heli is not as far away as you thought it may have gone. Don't give up, plus like you said good exercise.

Volcano, Just an option, trying to help. I like this better than google earth. I use it with my HHGPS.

Go to Magellan,

http://www.magellangps.com/Store/Tr...0-North-America

Download their free software. Under maps & software, called Vantage Point. It has 3D mode. You can rotate the imagery, zoom in out, and get a 3D perspective, you can look at the land as we see it out doors. You can also use topo if the land is rugged.

Like posted earlier, it may not be out as far as you think. I searched a huge bean field looking for a 250, the damn thing was only 30 - 40 feet into the beans. I was happy and pissed at the same time. My 250 was in the beans for 7 or 8 days and it rained while it was out there. After I found it I put a fresh battery in it and flew it, everything was fine, there was not even crash damage due to the cushion of the beans. My plan worked by flying over the beans, just didnt think about spending 38 hours in the beans looking for it.
If you are persistant you will find it.

I'm going to start strapping a hot dog to my tailbooms when I fly...much easier for the dogs that way.

That's called Hot Dogging It.
.
Depth perception at a distance can be very difficult. I crashed in a field and was sure I visually marked the spot. Wasn't even close.

I think about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something, then wonder what I'm here after ?
