I did not fly multi rotors for long, before realizing stick time is the most important component in the steep learning curve to master arco flying. I learned it the hard way and crashed many times, destroying frames, motors, flight controllers etc.

Based on my experience I have started my own scratch build design based on cheap available components.. The main purpose of this build is to keep the repair cost low and protect the most vital parts.

I have made a detailed build log on my blog:

This one belongs to a buddy at the field. I like the tri copters better than the quads for normal flying. They are much easier for orientation.

The second post is a SimpleCopter frame. Matt's a good guy and he builds these kits to be affordable so you're not butt-puckered and can develop your skills without breaking the bank. The T copter is my favorite.

Does that fly more like a heli or a quad copter?

Quads fly like old granny's
Kidding ;-)

Yaw is definitely better for the Tricopter... So if acton is your game, tri is the way to go...

+1 on hallstudio, his simple tcopter needs nothing but someone to wiggle the sticks. T's and tri's have so much more yaw than quads in addition to the visual orientation advantage. Inspired by Matt Hall, I keep it simple and have fun at very low $ repair cost.. Check out hallstudio youtube chnl. He openly shares do and don'ts to get you and keep you in the air.
