Hi guys
I was just currently doing some research on my jr ergo 46 that I recently purchased and am trying to set it up. I put an os 50 sx in it and I spooled it up twice. The second time that I spooled it, I snapped the connecting rod. I'm not not sure exactly how I should set it up. Originally it had a no name engine and it had like a half inch aluminum spacer on the end of the shaft, well I cut down my shaft on my os and it still would not fit into the heli with that washer. So I don't know if I snapped it because there was a little gap there or if I spooled up too high of rpm at mud stick and there was no resistance at 0 degrees pitch. I'm sure it's one or the other. I'm thinking I'll take it all back apart and shorten the shaft again and put that alumnium spacer/washer back on it. Do u have any ideas or suggestions on this? Thanks for listening.

I had a JR Ergo 46. I ran an OS46 in it at the time as this was before the OS50 came out. I did have to trim the crankshaft to get it to fit, but I don't recall how much I cut off. I recall Ray Hostetler and an article about it MHT and I cut off what he recommended. I think I may still have that issue of MHT in my library.

What rotor blades are you using? The Ergo 46 was same mainframe and running gear as the Ergo 30, if you use the wrong main gear or shorter rotor blades maybe you over-revved the engine? with the 46 or 50 engine, you should have the 600mm main rotor blades and I can check the teeth on the gears. Back in the day, some guys tried to upgrade the 30 to a 46 without changing the needed parts (boom, and belt are longer, main gear different and longer rotor blades) and the more powerful motor could over-rev.

I believe I was using woodies at the time. I'll have to check as I may still have them or some extra pairs in my parts bin.

I ran an Ergo 46 with a .46 and then a .50. You need to make sure you are geared correctly. You need to go to a 10 tooth pinion. Coupled with the 88 tooth main gear will give you 8.8 gear ratio which is good for a .50. Good luck. Right now you have a 9 tooth pinion which was ok for .30 and .46 but not a .50. You may want to upgrade your fuel tank as the tank in the ergo is small. You need a 420cc tank coupled with some carbon fiber brackets for 10 min flight times.
