Okay, I am being lazy.

I just replaced the "stock" V1 TR drive gear with the .8 TR drive gear setup.

Is the TR going faster or slower than the V1?

The .8 TR drive gear has much bigger teeth, so I assume it is stronger?

I also had to change from the old V1 teal / green OWB assembly over to the newer black unit with the radial bearing and OWB. Otherwise, I had to stack like 6 washers to keep the mod .8 TR drive gear from rubbing on the main drive gear.

The 0.8 Mod Gear setup uses a 131T Auto gear and 34T TT Gear, yielding a 3.86:1 Ratio

The stock tail gearing is 4.5 on the 600N.

Your tail will be spinning slower.

It will be spinning faster than the 4.5:1 for the same rpm on the a motor or engine.

No, it will not.

The 4.5 ratio will spin the tail rotor 4.5 turns for every 1 turn of the main shaft (Main Rotor).

The 3.86 ratio will spin the tail rotor 3.86 turns for every 1 turn of the main shaft (Main rotor)

You cannot compute the tail rotor speed using the engine RPM. The tail rotor gears are driven off the main shaft, not the engine Pinion.

My bad, you're right. I was thinking(or not thinking)engine or motor pinion.

Okay - I counted the teeth and confirmed the information.
The stock gears are 180 / 40 = 4.5
The Mod .8 gears are 131 / 34 = 3.85

The next question is why have the mod .8 gear set?

I can only assume that it will depend on the head speed - right?

The headspeed I run is 2100. That is 8,085 RPM with the Mod .8 gears (3.85) and 9,450 RPM for the stock (4.5).

I have been told that running the tail faster than 10,000 RPM is a "bad idea" - it may not blow up, but there is no benefits.

If I decided to run the head faster than 2,300, then I should run the Mod .8 gears (TR RPM=8,855 w/ Mod .8 vs 10,350 for stock).

On a 600N, I cannot run the head at 2300 without also changing the pinion / motor, or I may blow up the motor.

But this may apply to the 600E.

I believe those Mod .8 gears are for the 550E and 600Pro.
