I want to get rid of the cheap knock off 401 gyro on my Mini Titan. I was looking at the GY430. Has anyone used it and is it a good gyro that will perform good for normal flight with a solid tail hold. I have a GY520 on my swift nx, and I like it, but I really don't need everything it is capable of for how I fly my heli's. At almost half the price of the 401 and 520, I am thinking maybe I will give it a shot.

You can get practically new gy520s in the classifieds for 50-60 bucks. A solid tail is extremely important on any heli, especially while learning. This is not a place I would try to save money.

Ive never heard of a GY430?

What exactly is the problem with the 401 copy you have now?

As Funky Trex said you can pick up high end tail gyros these days for peanuts. They are plenty of Align GP750's out there which is a very good gyro just avoid the GP780 as it's not as good for some reason. The newest GP790 is also a good gyro.

Edit: Just googled the Futaba GY430 gyro, looks the business! Go for that one if its half the price of the others for sure!

60% of the time, it works every time!

It drifts constantly when in HH. I have no sub trim in the TX, nor any trim on the rudder. I set the tail rotor up mechanically to stay fairly stable when in rate mode. In forward flight, it's not a problem for me. But when working on my hover orientation, it drives me nuts. When in a hover in rate mode the tail stays put better than in HH mode. I was just looking around on towers site and I saw the GY430 listed. It's not that I am trying to save a few bucks, it's more of me wanting a good compact gyro like the size of the 520 but don't need all the features it has. The 520 I have on my swift, I never used the futaba pc programmer to set anything in it. I just did the manual programming and it works great. Was just looking for other options.

I have never seen the 430 until now and it does look interesting. I wasn't very fond of the 401 compared to the other options available but it looks like the new gyro may be a step up. If it is priced right, give it a try.

I have 3 520s on old flybarred helis I no longer fly (450, 50 & 90). I have had most of the popular gyros before the flybarless craze and the 520 always did very well on everything I tried it on. I never did get the PC interface, I didn't feel I needed it. I was just suggesting it based on past experience.

For $80, I am going to do try and find out a little more about it before making my decision on it. But if it works as good as the 520 without all the extra crap I don't need, why not!
