I am with Rich, it happens, after almost 30 years of flying scale helis, I can tell you a wreck is never fun to experience but it will pass, like Rich says, don't let anger get the best of you. Take a break and get back to it later.

Back in the air
Well after its accident back in September, my 407 is airborne again. I took the holiday weekend to get the required work done. Mist of the damage was minor and cosmetic. The pic was taken in my back yard. Now to get things like the doors and such back on and she'll be good to go.

Hi guys,
yep, Christmas has me with a house full of people that require attention LOL

I did sneak into the shop one night and started putting Vario rivets on my 407, but even though I think they look good, once painted I don't think they will be very visible.
soooo..... I will be taking those off and going back to the drawing board

Roy, you gotta be nuts bud, those rivets will look great! I like the way you got the lines nice and straight, I'm a stickler for straight rivet lines...

Rich, I just rebuilt one of your 4 blade heads. I'll get it off to you in the mail by the end of the week.
Happy New Year, Barry

All helis and planes have an expiration date stamped on them...you only find it after you crash!!

thanks guys! I will continue on then with these rivets.

worse that can happen is if I screw them up I can blame it on y'all

I love family but I never realized how much Angie and I have become accustomed to being alone and having a lot of quality personal time

So in the next week I will get back to riveting and just 1-2 scale details which are missing then paint.

I received a new set of landing gear from Mike Spinner for my Roban 407 and I think they look real good.
Here are the Roban skids

And here are Mike's skids

You can see they are much more scale and the angles look right. Mike sends the skids the way you want them whether in primer or painted. I requested them in primer so I could add my own scale details prior to painting especially since I'm not sure of my color scheme yet.
Thanks Mike!

Those look really good. See if you can find a scheme that has bearpaws on the skids. They look good and add a bit of stability to the skid system. Take care.

Nice looking skids Roy! But how the MC 407 coming along. Ever finished rivet on the fuselage? And when we going to see some paint? Dont want to bust ur balls but seems like I might have to lite a fire under ur ass like we did to Emile back in 2014, to get u to have that sweet bird finish! Ur retired now so u must not be traveling much these days, So what your major malfunctions soldier! lmao

Hi Rich! Powdercoat?
Asking out of ignorance... Will the small scale details you put on your skids be metal or plastic parts added after the skids are powder coated?

Hey Don, good to hear from you. I will have to research schemes and see what's out there.

Wazzup Ed!
Yep, Mike does do real nice work!
I am still putting rivets on the MC 407. Paint is getting closer all the time. Since I don't have a good place to paint I need to wait on warmer weather, but it's getting closer for sure .
As far as lighting a fire under my a$$, don't feel bad cause I need it once in a while LOL
Just met up with Emile for some parts exchange as he's working on my 429 mechs after my crash. Tail rotor housing came loose. I am pretty sure now it was my fault as I think I forgot to install the anchor screw that keeps the housing from coming loose. Damage wasn't too bad but he's also looking at possible clutch install in them also.

BTW I don't retire until December of this year so at least I can now say I'm a short-timer

Good to hear Roy. So is the MC407 going to still have the FURA paint scheme? Or are u changing it? Plus I have 1 question are u going to still keep those weak ugly hinges on the doors or change them for the more scale Vario ones? And hope ur going to do something about those 4 extra door handles, wait sorry 5 handles forgot the cargo door! Lol. But I still leave the offer to help paint since weather is warmer hear and I also can get the lettering done at the same time.

Yeah the gear looks nice, better than I expected altho they look like they could be a little higher for being high skids. If it wsnt for the fact that I make my own gear, I would be getting a set of his as well. Ed, Roy and I chat at least for 20 mins today about how the door hinges and handles have got to go. we both discussed the vario hinges for it so its a priority.
I have to defend Roy, I know about the work and personal life that keeps him from getting things done in the shop. I try to help hin out as much as I can with his projects even tho I am up to my neck with mine but I get more shop time than he does. todays trip to get servos and gear sets is typical of what we do when we cant spend the time at each others place and besides any chance I get to take my sporty ride for a little spin is totally welcomed.
