Rich, yeah those are funkey 660mm and they do fly awesome, no stab unit.
thanks for the comps Butch

well I am heading up north to lay my mom to rest, I lost her a week ago so all work is on hold til I return home.
growing up, she supported my addiction in that even though it made her mad when i used the dining table to build my airplanes, used her scissors to cut monokote and her iron to apply it to my wings and fuselage, she knew it had a lot to do with keeping me out of trouble and in school. she never worried about where i was because if I wasn't home, she knew I was with friends who had the same addiction. she was a wonderful woman, a super awesome mom and will be very missed.

Spoke to Emile last night. He sounded so sad, but that is understandable. We spoke about helis for a bit, especially about my 407.
I was going to post some pics of mine and add to the 407 thread. Here are a couple of pics Angie took while I set up and spooled up for a quick test flight after installing the mechs back into the fuse...

THEN... all hell broke loose...
pulled into a hover, it was running very smooth, when the tail rotor let go and it spun faster than I've ever done. somehow I got it on the ground in one piece but the tail rotor was gone. Found it about ten feet away and here is the damage.

Bummer Roy In the second pic it appears that your grub screws backed out... The only thing holding the blade hub on was the links.

Hi Barry,
I believe you are correct.

When I assembled it I put loctite on it and felt sure it was good to go. that's what I get for thinking

Angie wasn't happy about it and walked away. I think she figured I was going to ask for a new fuse, but fortunately the fuse has no damage.
Skids bent a little but held fast (Thanks Mikey)

Time for a visit to the Doctor's office
as soon as Emile is up to it I will commision him for test pilot duties LOL

Dimple???
Hi Roy,

Glad to see you are getting along with the 407 project... sorry about the problem though... no damage is a good thing though..
I am certain that there supposed to be a dimple in that output shaft that one of those set screws is supposed to lock into... but I cannot see that in the pics.. is there one there or at least a flat section???
I would imagine that it will take time for Emile to cope with the loss of his Mother, but go get him and get him busy... it is probably the best thing you could do for him....take care!!!!

Hey Stan, how are you??

Yes, I will get with Emile first chance and try to ease him back to some kind of normality. He is really hurting right now but knows he has friends who care.

As for the tail rotor, yes, there is a dimple on the other side of the shaft. It could have been my fault if I did not get the set screw in the dimple (damn, that almost sounds dirty LOL) but I was certain I did.

time to rebuild and try again

Doing Good, Thanks
Roy, all is going pretty good here and the health is hanging in, so I am flying, and working on heli's... how bad can that be!!!
I think they call that being in the "high cotton" down here!!

It is very easy to miss those pesky little set screws sometimes.. clean up the shaft, get two new grubs and bet you don't miss them again!!!! (ask me how I know:rolleyes

Will be watching for the next test hops....

Thx, Stan
