I guess I did it backwards, Started with Helis and never really flew any planes. Just ordered the Rifle, suppose to be pretty fast. I hope its not a let down!

I flew helis exclusively for many years before getting my first plank. The helis are serious, the planks are just for fun.

wrangler.
the rifle is a fast lil plane, not scary fast, like the Diamond Dust, but enough to get your heart racing. The thing is, it is small, and it will get out there fast and grow very small really fast, stay out of the throttle and keep it close youll do fine, trust me, when it gets out 1/4 mile or so, it gets tiny, fast

A Riffle at 1/4 mile away? You won't see it pass 1/8 mile away.
They are tiny.
All speed planes including a Diamond Dust gives you no footprint to look at when they are comming straight at you or away from you. You must fly them so you can somewhat see the top or bottom view, or you are dead.

A small electric Cup is a fun little toy to sart with. Speed planks are for adrenaline junkies who know no better

I did not know you could fly a turbine jet off of grass.

I want more information on the plank with remote start.

I flew a friends rifle ist how i started, (3D plane did not do it for me) if the speed junky bug gets you belive me you will be getting a bigger faster plane.
I was exclusivley helis only for 8 years until the speed bug fot me. I enjoy the technical chalange of 200mph F5D sports flying.
The rifle is ok but like others said, its quite small. The larger pylon racers track soooo much better and are more pleasing to fly. In heli terms its like compairing a trex 450 to a trex 700.
The obsession end at F3S and a losts of ££££££££££ later.

I haven't even gotten it yet and I'm having second thoughts!
I will just keep it slow and close and see how it goes!

I flew planes (very poorly I might add) for 20+ years before I got in to helis. I never got much beyond a low wing trainer and basic circuits and figures…

until I got in to helis. helis will make you instantly a better plane pilot.

all the junk in my garage from 20 years ago is just sitting there. but, i did want to get back in to planes once I figured out I could all of a sudden fly pretty well.

I did a little research and ran across the PA Addiction. It's a balsa and CF built up ARF that is perfect for retiring an old trex 450 (which is what I did). 4 micro servos, 3s 2200mah packs, 35amp esc,and a 4-5ch rx. all i needed to buy was the kit, a motor and a prop.

if 3D does interest you, it's a great diversion to pull out after a few hours of heli flying.

if it ain't broke, break it.

My hat off to anyone that does F5D.
Is been a dream for me to one day try F3D competitively and make a bit for the USA team, but the $$$$$$$$$$$$ factor has kept me away. Not a chance if I am doing helicopters at the same time. So I placebo myself with Q40s. I still have the hands to do it, I could only wish I had a sponsor to help out.

Helis still my choice for everyday fun, but speed flight is my ultimate drug.

oh come on, a 1/8 mile isn't bad, but you're right on the footprint, when the DD gets in a turn and comes right at you no matter where it is, it turns into a piece of paper. you have to know in your head where you're at and where it is going to keep up with it. The main thing I didn't like about the rifle is top and bottom are hard to tell apart if it gets out there, the DD I have VERY contrasting, yellow and red, yellow and black anything to help see top from bottom

Before or if you get a rifle their is losts of good info here
http://m.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1822036

I was told by plankers that i should build up to flying fast planes because they can be hard to fly. Coming from helis deff helped with the reflexes needed to fly this type of plane. Never the less I went straight into a F5D simprop turn left @about 150/160mph.
(which by the way is the limmit of the wing, i found out the hard way).
Yes i did find it a chalange first flights,
You need to do your home work on how they fly for example they fly better as you go faster.
