Throttle calibration setup issue:

So Im to the point in the V4 3GX manual section where it tells me to get in DIR mode.... Done.......

Then its says move collective from lowest to highest point once done the LED on the 3GX unit starts flashing red/green then restarts. I do that and I get NO flashing lights. Just stays lit green.

All other steps were easy and worked.

Any idea's

Thanks, Jon

Three step process, at least.

First. DIR mode is only there to allow you to get the servos moving the correct direction, and to get zero degrees at mid stick, as well as your overall +/-12 degrees pitch, and 8 degrees of cyclic. The gyro is not in the loop at this point, it is bypassed to allow you to make the mechanical adjustments correct.

Second. After you get all the good stuff set up in DIR mode, push the button, you now need to teach the 3GX the elevator limit.

For the following steps, your throttle/collective should be centered for ZERO PITCH and it must stay there.

Push the elevator stick all the way forward, then return to center.

Push the button again, you're now going to teach the 3GX the correct direction to move, to correct for motion in the fore/aft cyclic axis. Tilt the nose of the heli down, the front of the swashplate needs to move in the opposite direction, in this case up. If it moves the same direction you move the nose, fix it.

Push the button again. You're now going to teach the 3GX system what full aileron is. Move the aileron stick full right, then move it back to center.

Push the button again. You will now teach it which way to correct for left/right cyclic movement. Tilt the heli to the left, the swashplate needs to tilt in the opposite direction, to the right. If it moves in the same direction as the tilt, fix it.

Push the button. You are done with the basic setup as soon as the 3GX goes through a short reset phase.

Third. You will set the rudder parameters.

With power ON, push and hold the button for a couple of seconds, you'll see the first green light come on. In this series of steps, you will select 760/1520 usec neutral pulse width, digital or analog servo type, normal or reverse correction direction, left and right rudder limit, Delay (large/small heli), and whether or not the FBL unit is right side up, or upside down. Follow the instructions in the 3GX setup software. It is easy, takes about a minute, and you're done.

Fourth. Now for the throttle and pitch calibration step.

Unplug the power. Set a linear 0 to 100% throttle curve, and set your pitch curve for a linear negative full pitch to positive full pitch range. Set the throttle to full low setting, this will also be full low pitch.

While holding down the pushbutton, plug in the battery. HOLD the button down while watching the LEDS on the top. LET GO OF the button WHEN the whole row of LEDs is lit. At this point, simply move your throttle/collective from its low position to its full position. After a couple of seconds, the 3GX unit will reset, and you'll be finished, ready to fly.

-----

IF I might add, at this point, you may want to install and use version 3.1 software at present. The new 4.0 stuff has screwed up the tail gyro function. Version 3.1 behaves well.
This is simple, takes about a minute, and the setup is identical to what is described above.

Thanks for the reply dkshema,

Ive done all the steps with success, minus the rudder and throttle calibration.
The manual says in order to calibrate the trottle get in DIR mode then simple move the throttle to the lowest point then to the highest point then the unit should blink red/green and reboot. I do this and nothing.
The throttle calibration is the only issue Im having!
Im in the DIR mode with only a single LED on, do I need to keep holding the button until all LEDs are lit??

Thanks for the reply.

Go read what I wrote one more time.

There are at least three separate processes.

1. DIR mode, and the few following steps that teach the 3GX the type of swash control, aileron and elevator limits, and correction direction. Nowhere in this step is a throttle/pitch calibration performed. You get into this mode by holding the pushbutton ONLY LONG ENOUGH after applying power, to see the lights begin to go through their power up sequence.

2. Rudder setup. You get into this mode, any time after power has been applied, and the 3GX system has completed its initialization. Simply hold the pushbutton for a couple of seconds, the first light in the row of 5 LEDs will light up.

3. Throttle/Pitch calibration. You get into this mode by holding the pushbutton down when you apply power. Continue to hold the button down and each of the five LEDs in the row will light up, one at a time, then they will ALL light up. Let go of the button when all five LEDs are lit. This is where you run the throttle/pitch calibration step.

-----

Again, I also strongly suggest that you revert the software from 4.0 to 3.1 before you do anything else. Version 4 has horrible tail rotor control and the tail behaves badly. Use V3.1 till Align sorts out the V4.0 problem.
