Hello all, I've just bought a 550E DFC Super Combo, everything is built and set up except for the speedo. I have the talon 90 that came with the model, and when inputting my figures in the castle program for the speed, it's suggesting a maximum of 2350, but I'm sure most people are running higher head speeds than this. Are people running higher pinions or just not using the governor at all? The main gear is 112T and pinion is 11T it is also helical a geared, don't know if that makes much of a difference. I will be doing smack 3D with this heli so I'm sure I'm looking for at least 2500 headspeed. If anyone could shed some light on what to do about head speeds that would be great.

Thanks

Matt

Yes you will need to get a 12 tooth pinion if you want to run above 2350
I think the highest I could get with the 11 tooth pinion was 2250 with the governor on

Why not try it without a Gov?

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly far better than I can pilot them

I understand .. but with the 11T you can still get 2500 head speed on curves and possibly longer run times than the 12 or 13T pinion. . And I would think abit less bogging if that is possible on this bird with the smaller pinion. Electronics will like it better too I would think.
Just a thought.

12 tooth gives me 2100-2500. 2100 is very bogable 2500 is awesome.

I have a 3D heli, I don't understand why it doesn't do 3D.

Just a small update and question. I flew the model Sunday and with the 11t pinion on it with no governor it's unbelievably awesome. If I was to use the governor then I will change the pinion but as for now it is staying as is.

Question: I need to set up the end points for the speedo but read different things about it may affect the vbar/vbar mini (I have a vbar mini). I didn't program the vbar with the esc plugged in, so I'm guessing that if I do set the end points for the esc using my travel adjust on the throttle, it shouldn't affect the vbar am I right?

550 dfc
I been flying all summer with the 11t pinion rjx550 fbl blades on curves 85 percent idle up 1 never used gov is a exellent heli.5.20 mins of 3d plus big air mix of flying.might try the 12t pinion off the 700 wonder if the higher head speed would offset any bog issues.

I'm glad you tried it Boothie. That is what I am going to do when I receive my 550 dfc. I tried something similar with my old 450 Trex V2 when I converted it to FBL. I put on a DFC head and Ikon but went with the smallest pinion [11T] and a Pulse 1350 mah 35C 3s pack.It is half the weight of a 2200 lipo. I extended the battery tray so the CG would be right on. Stunt mode is a flat 100% all the way across. It is no rocket ship but it is very hard to bog and flies real light ,the tail is happy and I get an easy 5:00 flights out of it. Esc is barely warm as well as the lipos.

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly far better than I can pilot them
