I've been out of the nitro world for almost 4 years and I want to make sure my machine is tuned properly. Check out the vid and the description and let me know any thoughts / opinions!!

I should also add that I only have one piece of gyro tape (came with the AR7200BX) on the machine. Maybe that's the cause of the heli wanting to tilt left at the 3:20 mark?

Thanks in advance!!

The engine sounds just like I try to get mine to sound...Really good.

Tail gain was too high at 1:50.

Saw a little deceleration in elevator tic tocs...Maybe turn the governor gain up?..Not really needed though since it never actually bogged.

Looks great all in all.

I literally never use the word literally right.

The tilting problem is caused by vibration. Find the source of the vibe and fix it. An aileron roll is caused by excess vibration. Check the engine and make sure you didn't load it up with Loctite on the fan hub and now it isn't running true. First location I would check. Then check the blades. If it is RPM related that is a sure sign.

There was an overspeed at 3:20'ish.

@ McKrackin - Thanks!! It sounded / felt ok but I did hear a little bog in the mid range so I may play with that. I've already fixed the tail gain issue. I just had it set on a generic setting (that was the second flight on the machine). I don't have a governor on the machine (yet) so no adjustments can be made!!

@ TMoore - If there was a vibration issue, wouldn't it be present in all aspects of flight, not just when it overspeeds? The heli flew great until it oversped.

@ Tyler - I caught that and that is where the aileron roll issue was introduced. I guess it must be introducing a weird vibe somewhere at the higher headspeed.

Should I use more / different gyro tape on the flybarless unit? Like I said, I am using only one pad (that came with the flybarless unit) and the way I understand it is that most nitros use one pad, thin metal plate, and another thinner pad. Am I correct in saying this?

You should be fine with one pad but don't use the thick white pad! Use the thin grey red backed pad.

60% of the time, it works every time!

If the overspeed caused a vibration, thus resulting in aileron oddities, I would chase down the engine rpm issue.

I'd suggest checking your fuel tank to ensure that you have constant muffler/regulator pressure feeding the engine. I chased governor problems for a long time due to a dripping tank seal.

Engine runs
Pressure builds
Pressure blows seal
Tank pressure drops
Engine rpm increases
Governor pulls back throttle
Pressure drops in tank without rpm
Throttle advances
Engine slow to repsond
Governor advances throttle again due to no response
Tank pressure builds, but engine may be overheated
Engine runs poorly
Pressure recovers
Pressure blows seal
Engine goes lean and overspeeds
Governor pulls back
Throttle does not match pitch curve

Get the idea?

Made a difference for my T700N

@ Richardmid1 - What thin grey red backed pad? Is it the 3011 that mxracerx43 referenced to? If so, where can one purchase such a pad?!! LOL!!

@ Tyler - I don't have a governor and it's a brand new build with only 15 flights on the machine. Everything is sound. I am running a throttle curve so I may have to lower the v portion of the curve until the overspeed goes away and / or I get a governor.

Without the governor you will simply get an overspeeding engine that runs lean and hot (vibrations). You still find yourself in a cycle.

Lean
Overspeed
reduced power
pitch/throttle curves no longer match
bogging/overloading

The difference is you react, not just the governor. In your video you recovered and gave the engine a break when things got weird.

These are just ideas, I don't know your real problem.

Had the heli running GREAT yesterday until a $0.50 kite string appeared out of nowhere and put my heli in the ground at a high rate of speed. I just spent almost a large on the machine to get her back up and she was in pristine condition. Only got 5 flights on her and I will be putting in another 400 or so on the repair. Sometimes this hobby SUCKS!! LOL!!

Thanks again for all the tips. Back to the drawing board

I hope I picked up the right stuff. I got the one that says 411. Couldn't find anything that said 4011.
