Hmmm... wonder if its mount is set for 50 "size"

The 600 number seems to be implying such

Cheers,

well theres a swift kick to the crotch to all those who have the other engine with the walbro carb....

I think the 600 implies what its gonna cost you...

People are waiting for improvements on GT15 but in the meantime OS is releasing the same engine for airplanes.

^^^ You gave a link to the planker motor. Judging by the giant head and heat sink on the crankcase seen in the OP post, this is not a planker motor.

That smaller carb was what they should have gone with in the first place...the Walbro carbs venturi was too big resulting in a very narrow HP curve, this smaller carb will hopefully flatten the curve out a bit at the expense of some peak HP/RPMs.

so combined with a too narrow HP curve and sensitive needles, it was not so much a surprize they were burning them up.

I know that they have put out an improved version of the piston that should solve the ring pin issue. A really smart way to do it if you look up how they did it compared to the "traditional" pin mounting position.

this smaller carb will also allow a better cooling airflow pattern and plus this setup looks to weigh less as well.

+1
For the new smaller and lighter carb. Besides it will allow us to avoid the nighmare of trimming away the fan shroud.

the first prototype from ALIGN already had a rear heat sink.

GT15HZ is still a crap engine, ALIGN did not make any heli for that engine however OS is now making a smaller engine to fit the Trex 600 nitro...

I still hope this type of gas engine succeeds. Although many were burned [pun intended] by this engine it reminded me of the Webra [RIP] attempt at the same thing. If any company could do it it should be O.S. I was rather disappointed with O.S.'s first heli gas engine attempt. Not only because of the failures but more importantly their customer support [or lack of] with this engine I have read on the various forums. I am still amazed that the first run of this OS heli gasoline engine ran down the same path as Webra's attempt .

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly far better than I can pilot them

I came very close to buying a first gen model but held back. I would love to try the new version as a simple drop in to my nitros- but my Zenoah gassers give me the luxury of virtually no field support gear w recoil start. Any plans for that being an option on the OS does anybody know?

the "New" version has a back plate with cooling fins so no rear mount pull start available. A pull start can be made, but it would require a slighty different crank design like those used for nitro cars...that would be interesting to see.

Thanks for that info RM3- that's really the only thing that prevented me from trying one in my Raptor 90, which i ended up converting with the Helibug conversion. (Highly recommend it) Guess i wont plan on trying one anytime soon.

Based upon info posted on HF, this is a .91 displacement engine with a .50 crankcase? I suppose that makes sense since power output would be better in a 50 sized helicopter anyways, but what about the bearings? Doesn't a .50 use much smaller bearings than a .91? How about the warranty?

As for warranty claims, I knew a guy who bought a DX7 off CraigsList, dropped it, broke the case, and then sent it to Horizon. A few weeks later he received a brand new DX-7 on his doorstep. So good warranties are not unheard of in this hobby.
