Hey Buddy!!
Stan!

How are you, man? You & Paul are more than welcome to come get some stick time on the EC! Heck, I trust y'all flying it more than I trust myself!

Hey, I will be in Arkansas for at least 6 more weeks so we definitely need to meet up during that time! Would love to get some flying/testing done with y'all! If you plan on going to Cajun Heli Fest we will definitely see ya there. If the EC isn't done by then I will at least bring the Hughes to get some play time in.

Hey y'all, watch this!

Hey friends,

Well, I just wanted to post a little update and revive this thread. I just ordered the last bits for the Hughes, including a new V-Bar 5.3, so I can get her big butt in the air before Cajun Heli Fest.

Looking forward to meeting some new friends.

Very cool, welcome back Don't forget to upgrade that Vbar to Pro firmware. That way you can phase the head electronically and you can also upgrade to the XXtreme firmware (free) after buying pro. The XXtreme firware is custom tailored to the bigger disc scale machines.

Thanks!
Barry,

Really appreciate the info, man. I didn't realize that about the firmware upgrade. Will do as soon as it arrives. Looking forward to swinging some BIG blades.

Dennis,

Hey, my friend! Yes sir, I will definitely get some shots (and vids) of her in action when all is up & running. I just gotta pull myself away from the EC long enough to set her up. I fully plan on having her functional by end of next month for Cajun Heli Fest. Stay tuned...

Making Good Use Of A Rainy Day
Well, it supposed to be one of the coldest & iciest (if that's even a word) rainy days tomorrow while staying in the 30's with 80% chance of precip. so I have a full day planned for the Hughes. Gonna spend it watching Airwolf reruns while working on the electronics installation, soldering a few bullet connectors and programming the V-Bar. Looking forward to getting this big ole girl up & running like she was built to do. (Thanks again, Dennis.) I will try my bestest to do her justice. Stay tuned....

Day 1....Not Bad
Hey guys,

Ohhh 19 degrees, eh Stan?? Yea, looks like we missed a serious winter up there. Gettin' much done in the shop? Although, you're probably already finished up for CHF.

Today, I spent the majority of my time trying to find the correct nuts, bolts & fasteners I needed for the servos. After the move, everything was in disarray, to say the least. I did manage to get all pushrods set at correct lengths, servos mounted in place and a small "platform" built out of 1/8" ply to secure the Roxxy in place. That's a big ole ESC. Tomorrow, I plan to get all bullet connectors & Dean's plugs soldered, finish up wiring all nav. lights, ESC hooked up with V-Bar, V-Bar programmed and HOPEFULLY start setting blade pitch. Will keep ya posted on my progress. Pics to soon follow.

I assume from your mechanics pic, that the rotor cap is the Vario
carbon fiber version. I recently bought a 5 blade cap for my
700 size MD500E and the center bolt hole was drilled off center.
How is yours looking? I'm gonna have to fill the hole with epoxy, throw it on the lathe and try and redrill it centered. I've got the 4 blade version on my Lakota and it's drilled pretty well, but needs a little more balancing.

Yes, Vario
Hey Adam,

That's correct. It is the Vario 5 blade CF head. Mine is pretty much top-dead-center which I confirmed with a set of calipers once I read your post. Sounds like you have a production error. Maybe call Vario (ask for Joe Howard) and see if they will swap one out for you. They've never let me down when I've had any type of issue.

Additionally, the pic shows mine sitting kinda high off the rotor head. The Jesus bolt wasn't in place and it had actually slid down the main shaft just a bit.

Adam,
I had the same issue on the Carbon Head button on my EC145. Took a ton of balancing.

Shayne,
You will be able to see if yours is off or not but spooling it up with and without it.

Get that bird together...she is beautiful.

Well MOST of the snow and ice melted away today... but I did get a lot finished up in the shop!!
Yes, I am pretty much ready for Cajun, and plan on maybe having a couple of surprizes ready by then!!! You just never know what might come out of my shop at this time of the season!!

Looking good Shayne... you are on a roll!!!!!!

A Little Update
Well, I had the chance to get everything soldered up and looking good and V-Bar/Rx all hooked up. Thought I was going to get more done but had to make a last-minute run into town which took up the rest of my time. Tomorrow, as long as nothing comes up I plan on programming the V-Bar, testing of the nav/search lights and at least getting everything reinstalled into the fuse.

Hopefully, tomorrow!
Thanks so much, fellas! HOPEFULLY, (weather permitting) I will put some space between her belly and the ground tomorrow! Today was mostly honey-do's while I had to do yard work pretty much up until just an hour ago. I did manage to finish securing all the wires, epoxy a few magnets for the doors and mount the batteries while installing the cockpit this evening. (Sounds more involved than it actually is) Tomorrow, it's one final bench test then PLAY TIME! <<crossing fingers>>

Sounds like a plan, my friend. I hope to bring the EC135 as well. Gotta see how the loading room works out. Hope to have enough space to get both in the SUV.
