With all the talk about how "unsafe" this hobby is and how it compares to extreme sports like sky diving, bungee jumping and speed skiing, I will have to disagree. Barring freak accidents and ignorance (The condition of being uneducated, unaware, or uninformed,), this hobby can be as safe as you want it to be. It is not an "Extreme" sport! Sure, flying crazy close might be considered extreme, but for most of us, charging the Lipos, driving to the field..heck even walking to your car is more dangerous than flying these things....
IF you respect what COULD happen!
I know..without a doubt..that I will NEVER be killed by my flying too close. Could I be killed by flying? Sure, but it is going to be one helluva freak accident. And the chances of me getting killed doesnt make it much more dangerous than me flying a kite Think about what the odds are of getting hit while flying these...it has to be at the right angle, the right attitude and then it has to be at the right velocity for me not to be able to jump out of the way.

What do you guys think?

I agree, I think driving on a highway is more of a extreme sport than helis. heck people die from eating too much bad food so should eating fat loaded foods be considered extreme sports?

The problem is people get confortable and have the mind set of that won't ever happen to me..

but if this becomes extreme than that with kiteboarding and my motorcycle I am a insurance companies worst nightmare

There are numerous unforeseen dangers in our daily lives.

Simply riding a bicycle can be considered "Extreme".

I lady died due to drinking too much water during a radio station contest...

We might do extreme 3D maneuvers with our helicopters but in no way do we need to be labeled an extremely dangerous sport.!

If you want to present a death count statistics, you must divide those figures by the number of participants in the activity.

Lets say only two people per year get in the water. The shark death can be 50% fatal.

If 75,000 people ride bicycle, then the death rate is 1%

So, the death in % is meaningful and not the death count.
