Finishing the build on my 700E. Castle ICE2 HV 120 Amp esc, stock 510MX motor. I fly strictly sport, absolutely no 3D. Haven't flown, so I don't know what cruise (average) or peak current draw is.

Question: For my flying, are 25C cells ok, or do I need to step up to a 45C. I realize it's not an inexpensive hobby, but if I can spend $250 instead of $500 for a couple of batteries, it just makes good sense.

Thanks in advance to all replies.

I fly some packs that are rated at 35C on my Trex-800 and they always come down cool, plenty of pull and I hit the sticks with it. I wouldn't have any problem running 25C-35C packs on a 700 for sport flying as long as they are known to be reasonably good brand that many people have success with. Just be sure to follow the 'don't over discharge it' rule.

Honestly I know people flying 700's with 4 year old packs that are likely way higher resistance than new 25C packs.

just watch your logs and make sure ripple voltage is low. Make sure to get nice solid solder connections and shortest wires possible.

Thanks! I've seen ripple mentioned in regards to Castle meltdowns. I recorded a peak of 0.43 volts on the bench with no blades. What is considered tolerable?

I know Castle says max of 10% of the pack voltage - so if you are running 12S ( ~50V ) then you want a max of 5V. But personally on 12S I'm looking for less than 2V ripple voltage. I may spike at 1.5V in flight hitting high AMP pulls. typical in flight ripple is in the .5-.7V range.

I have the same setup with 700MX 510KV motor and run the Turnigy 20-30C packs and never had a problem AND I fly 3D at 2100 rpm and the packs are done in under 4 mins. I have had a total of 12 Turnigy 6s 5000 20-30C packs and never had a bad one, IR is low and they cost like $45 each!

60% of the time, it works every time!

Pulse batteries are great. I have the 35c in my 700e and they work awesome. Some of the best packs I have tried. These are the ones I use.

A answer to your question, I have 700e V2 with 700mx 510kv w/Scorpion 130v opto and I fly with Turnigy 30c 5000 for about 6-7 minutes sport flying. I don't have the money to buy a pack for those big dollar prices. I have some 20c-30c that I haven't used yet but will give them a shot and they are Turnigy 5000mah 20c-30c.

I don't use the gov, I run with the 13t pinion and stock main gear, for me its plenty. Im only sport flying so it performs well. Love the little remote to program it, real easy. V oms down cool with no issues so far. I think you will like it.
