Good Morning America did a significant story, maybe a minute of airtime, on an octo-copter that was being used to film the flooding in Colorado. It was talked to and shown in a very positive way to include helping officials determine safety course of action.

The reporter specifically called out that 'drones' have been given a bad rap and there are some good, positive things that can come from flying cameras.

There is always a positive side, sometimes it just takes longer to find it!
I also saw the video of the quad.

Lots of great stuff going on in multirotors every day!

Super easy to find positives, but the media doesn't look for that.

Had they not seen that copter flying overhead, they'd have never thought to put a positive spin on it.

Here is some sample positive stuff.

Nice shoot.

I think things are bound to change as people see more positive uses for helis and multi-rotors. For example, farmers will be able to assess their fields for water, fertilizer, etc with greater accuracy, and commercial ventures to do this are probably not too far away.

More should be known as to where it (Unmanned Aerial Systems) all falls in line with recreational/personal/private/commercial use and how it will be regulated after an FAA meeting at the end of this month. AMA is also going to bat to make sure your rights as multirotor hobbyists are protected. Stay tuned.

The AMA has been involved from the beginning, before drones became common in the public mind.

FEMA stepped in and shut this down despite the fact that it worked better than anything tried prior with full size. Bunch of Brainiacs.

Actually, I've shipped a unit to the Army Corp of Engineers for use in disaster recovery efforts.

Sandy was an eye opener for many and prompted the use of any and all available resources.

We are starting to get more and more requests from them.
