Hi, I am fairly new to the hobby, have been flying Align 500/550 for the past year or so... Just won a Goblin 500 kit at the New England Heli Crew Phenomenon over the weekend. I also picked the Quantum motor for the 500... Need servos and a FBL controller.

I am trying to decide whether to go big and put in HV servos and run a 2S lipo flight pack with no BEC or stay basic and run normal servos through a BEC... Any thoughts ?

As for FBL... I have the HeliCommand on my 550 and like it, but $500 is kinda steep.. Not interested it the IKON, but am considering VBAR or Skookum..

Just picked one up myself I am not going 2s as in a 500 sized heli, that extra weight is a penalty. I am going with a WR BEC but I can still go HV servos if I want.
I am also going with YGE ESC, VBAR Pro, and the VBAR GOV....unstoppable combo IMO.
I also have another trick up my sleeve but that will be revealed in due time....MUUUAAAHHHHH!!!

Running CC Talon90 esc w/built in 20amp bec in ours works great and takes a beating. Also the new BK servos are great for Goblin500.

I am a fanatic now for the extra safety myself. And don't consider the small 2s batts much of a weight penalty. Skookum! Best tail out there. And the proactive gov rules all.

The Talon 90 ESC was recommended by a few people. I like a separate receiver pack for a couple of reasons 1.) You can power up the electronics without ANY possibility of the blades spinning and 2.) If something happens to main battery connector or the battery, you still have receiver/servo control. The reason for the 2S is so that (with HV servos), you can run unregulated. At the NEHC phenom this weekend, the first crash was due to the BEC melting, fortunately the model landed short of the spectator area, but it was within 15 feet of the ropes!
