Hi guys, Well my X50 took its first dirt nap this past weekend. Lost orientation and dumb thumbed it on its side.
This is my first first heli that I built and started with. I have been flying for three years now and she has taken me from knowing absolutely nothing to doing rolls, flips loops etc.... Never a days issue, even the electric guys are surprised that it had been more reliable and trouble free than their helis. I have all the replacement parts and alloy upgrades as well as the TT conversion, should be flying again in a week. I have another X50 with all the upgrades to still maiden and a X50e to build an Airwolf someday.

Sorry to hear about your crash. It sounds like you have a good attitude about it though, and will take this opportunity to rebuild better than it was before. Be sure and post the after - rebuild pics

That is a standard carbon bottom brace for the original Raptor 30s/50s. As far as I know they are still available if you search. Possibly check ebay. It is different than the x50 brace so be sure what you are looking for when searching.

Rebuilt my X50 over the past two weeks, upgraded it to alloy head and torque tube. Replaced all bearings. Fitted a spare green X50e canopy as the original one got fairly busted up.
I will repair the busted canopy and give it a personalized paint scheme.
Test flew it today and it flew great.

Very nice job- your x50 looks great. I can't wait to hear the flight report and your opinion on the TT upgrade as mine are all still belt driven.

TT
and your opinion on the TT upgrade
Make sure your tail blades are balanced well. The TT spins a bit faster than the belt, and if something if off you will find out in a hurry!

What kind of vibrations?

Pull the main grips apart and check that the thrust bearings are installed correctly.

Flew one of mine yesterday and had a flame-out at 20 feet.
Inverted.
Quick roll and an auto.
All the big pieces were unscathed.
Bent the starter shaft and took out the black torque tube gear.
Now to figure out the flame-out.....and why the starter shaft would bend.
Probably a plumbing problem.....and maybe a gremlin too.
I really love this bird.

Wayne, sorry to hear about the mishap. Did you figure out the issue and why the starter shaft bent? I put 2 flights on my X50b today. I know it's been said before but I'm sayin it again- this is one smooth flying machine.

Jack,
I'm not certain, but after everything was back in place and I was testing it out, the fuel tubing popped off of the inlet side of the fuel filter. This would have certainly caused a flame-out if it occurred while inverted...lol. As to the bent starter shaft, I can't envision a condition that would have caused this. The clutch was in place and tight. The frame was unbroken and unbent. Everything was in place except the main shaft had pushed the bearing out of the bottom of the lower bearing block and the starter shaft was dramatically bent at the point where it exited the clutch bell.....just above the one-way needle bearings. All parts functioned flawlessly in the auto after rolling back over. The engine started right up and ran like a top. Anyway, it's all better now and flying as smooth as ever...
