From Jenni Orebaugh:

"Good morning, All. Just a quick note, that if any of you, as AMA members, are asked questions pertaining to the incident (media or otherwise), please direct them to our Public Relations office and Rich Hanson at (888) 899-3548"

I realize most organizations have a point of contact (usually PR) after such an incident. I didn't realize how 'real' the mention of something being on the news was until about thirty minutes ago.

I rent my engineering office space from a friend who owns a large real estate firm. It is nice, secluded and mixed in with a bunch of realtors. When I came in today I was instantly bombarded by questions and of course 'hype/hysteria' that was from the morning shows they watch (side note: I stopped watching the news in 2008 and my outlook on life has been SOOOO much better- you should try it!).

One of the people in the office has a spouse who is a well known news anchor. You have no way of knowing what you say casually might end up in a news report. We, in this hobby/industry, do not typically have to deal with anything like this. This is an exception and please choose your words wisely when talking to friends and family and if you think it could remotely be connected to media outlets, please refer them to the contact above.

Thank you.

Thanks, Ryan. Rich Hanson is also the AMA Governmental liason, working with the government and FAA about hobby-related issues and has a very good handle on working with the media pertaining to all aspects of the hobby.

AMA has also issued an official press release about the tragedy: http://amablog.modelaircraft.org/me...y-mourns-loss/.

I've worked for some very large companies where employees were prohibited from talking to the media directly. The only thing you can do is refer them to the PR office.
