I first saw it here and then heard it on 1010 news radio last evening. It hits home hard as my son and I have been to SRW field few times in the past.

You keep saying this can't be real yet you know it is real. This is truly a sad event. He was only a kid and never made out of the teen status makes it hurt that much more.

You think you are not vulnerable yet this proves how fragile we all are.

RIP Roman

The story has made it to every single news outlet from CNN to MMA blogs.

I've not ever seen coverage like this.

Some of the pictures from the scene show how awful this tragedy really was.

It's a sad day for us as a community.

When we head to the fields to fly this weekend please keep this tragedy in your mind and don't become complacent.

While I'm certainly no model of safety and take my fair share of risks, I will now do what I can to increase the margin of safety to which I fly.

RIP Roman.

Just remember, life is full of risks. You could be riding your motorcycle into heaven in an instant, or skiing into a tree or off a cliff. You could get killed rock climbing, bike riding or even just jogging down the street.

These are hobbies. Things we love to do. Some of them come with the associated risks.

RIP Roman.

I was going to go to their fun fly this past Labor Day but bagged out due to the unstable weather. Although I didn't know him it really hit home due to his young age and having grown up in NYC myself.

RIP my friend!

I read this on NY Post's website. I hope the public will not go to the extreme since this appeared to have made the news across the nation.

"City Council member Dominic Recchia, who represents the 47th District, came out to the park to urge the Parks Department to put a moratorium on flying model aircraft until an investigation into the cause of death is completed."

The loss of a young man who grew in this hobby, brought joy and smiles to those who watched him fly, and share his friendship with the like of us clearly leaves an empty hole in our hearts.

My prayers and condolences to Roman's family, friends, and hobby teammates.

I used to fly in Seaview Rotary in 2005 and 06 and Roman Jr's father I believe used to be the treasurer for the club then. I believe he has a different poition now and anyway I met junior several times and saw him flying back then and it was just amazing what a 12 year old could do. He was very polite and all around good kid that was fun to have around. Of course his father is a top notch helicopter specialist with many years experience and prepared junior's helis really well. Back then he was flying a Xcell Fury with canopy painted by Roman Sr and boy did he put it through its paces but I just don't remember the kid being unsafe or anything. The club itself has its bylaws and stuff and this was the son of one of the officers so he followed all the rules. Great kid, very sad indeed.
My thoughts and prayers for the family,
Charlie
