Anyone fly the 550 Pro low KV heli yet??

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly far better than I can pilot them

Very debatable. Basically the 550 uses 5Ah capacity packs, same as a 12s 700, roughly same flight time so would you put a 90 amp ESC in a 700? I would but not with the new 750MX or larger motors.

Anyway, the reason 8s isn't very popular for this size heli is the need to use 2 4s packs, the idea of a 550 is the convenience to use a single 6s 5000 pack which alot of people already use in their 700. Plus 6s is plenty for a 550.

Ide also like to add that motor KV means very little other than how fast the motor spins at a certain voltage. I personally would much rather see more lower KV motors and bigger pinions, less wear, less gear stripping, lower noise and more gearing options.

I would think that there would be more wear on gears and motor bearings as the lower KV is supplying alot more torque to a much steeper gear ratio. Like pedaling a bicycle up a hill[standing on the pedals] in high gear instead of a lower gear still seated and spinning at a higher pedal crank rpm.

Completely different. Bearings wear according to number of revolutions, the higher the revs the faster the wear. Also a smaller pinion pushes and rubs on almost every single main gear tooth, a larger pinion ensures more teeth in contact at once with a bigger radius as it rolls on and off the main gear teeth so less rubbing.

hmmm interesting ,,I will have to think about that. I had read though the slanted helical gearset on this machine Without a top bearing above the pinion to support the motor shaft causes a load on the motor bearings different from a straight gear and can cause quicker bearing wear. I would also think the higher the torque the worse the problem would be. Is that true?

Well the 730mx is a very interesting concept for 550 machines. I got 2 as soon as they released to try out. The stator size is 4030 at less than 400gr because of the low copper fill and narrow magnets. This makes for almost zero increase in temps, cool. I am also a fan of lower kv from my experience, feels like much more low end grunt. This motor is a nice on my X5 at 1;8 GR 2300-2500 rpm. I am using a Jive 80hv on 7s at the moment with future plans to try 6 & 8s for comparisons. (6s 4400mah--7s 3850mah--8s 3300mah). All batteries listed are already in use in other birds so no cost there, no loss! I will likely swap over to the 100LV for 6s as I am in the red zone with 7s and the 80HV. I have logged around 4400watt peaks, eventually I assume, as the next summer comes around, the 80hv will start struggling. Luckily the current cooler weather allows for an extra margin. Hopefully there will be no surprises
