I had already posted the info here (without the link to the SW), kind of violating the RR "double post" rule. I figured that the folk over in the FBL controller forum may not cross-pollinate with the Align people over here, so put the basic info in both places.
Two nights ago, I updated ten 3GX controllers, 8 of which are currently installed, two still in the box.
It took a few hours to do the upgrade for all of them. Not a big deal at all.
There is an admonition when you go to download that the process will reset the controller to its defaults, and that you need to go through the DIR, initial setup, gyro setup, and throttle/governor/pitch curve calibration all over again.
It seems, however, that the settings you have, don't really change after the upgrade. I'm not so sure the upgrade actually screws up whatever you already have set, but just to be on the safe side, I went through all the usual setup steps again. Fortunately, the 3GX is dirt simple to set up. I did save my current settings before the upgrade, then reinstalled them afterward.
One disappointment, however:
The one slider adjustment in the PC software that is supposed to allow you to set up an electronic cyclic ring to prevent binding of the head with lots of collective and the cyclic sticks in a corner, still seems to not really do anything. Maybe someday they will fix that.
I test hovered the smaller helis in my front drive following the upgrade, I didn't notice any bad side effects, so the upgrade went smoothly
Maybe this weekend I'll be able to wedge my way into the flight line between all the planks at the field and get a chance to test fly the new software.
