I'm using 2 thick foam pads with the metal plate sandwiched between for a 600 class nitro. Is there a more vibration resistant mounting technique out there?

You shouldn't need more than that.

It was suggested to me to use thin - plate - Zeal Gel - 520. It is more important to eliminate vibrations caused by fan/clutch alignment or balance and any other sources of vibrations. Also engine bearings, predetonation, blade balance, bent main shaft, worn links, etc.

I'm leaning toward engine tuning at this point. Just wanted to know if there was a better method.

Just found some good info here:

3M 4408 tape is good for single axis gyros. With the 520 you can usually get top performance with either the 4408 or even the thin 3M tape for trim attachment.

I kept the Futaba recommended mounting, but dropped down to 15% nitro and re-tuned. When I pulled my YS for an OS, I kept running 30%. It's been a while since I opened the head on the OS, so I don't know if I added an extra shim to it (I think not).

My rudder servo was getting hot before, now it's a little above ambient. That's how all this got started.

Any of this make sense?
