Northern California - Fly at Morgan Hill Field

My Posts: All  Forum  Topic

I recently acquired a Scale Huey with a Jakadofsky turbine. The heli was owned by Al Wert, probably one of the best scale model guys in the country. He passed away last year. He was a friend and I still miss him at the field.

This is a large heli - I think it weighs about 30-35 lbs!

Here is a video of this heli in flight:

Watch at YouTube

I am thinking of changing the head over to a flybarless system - I don't like the looks of the big flybar; I prefer replicating what the actual Huey head looks like!

Any thoughts or ideas folks may have re which FBL system, which head, etc., would be greatly appreciated.

I am an experienced heli pilot and I am quite familiar with vbar, Beastx, and 3G.

Thanks in advance!

I'm glad you bought this heli vs the other green huey that was also for sale.

I could see it now, tandem flying with my CDF huey for Helicopter Scale Masters! Gonzalo was saying Lama fest, I say Huey fest.

I have AL's Cobra... hope to get it back in the air soon...
As far as flybarless head for that size? scale? no one that I'm aware of make anything. There are a few "Semi-scale" heads out there.
But, you can remove the flybar quite easily and make your own.

It's such a nice flying Huey that if it would be mine i shouldnt touch the head! I guess with the coming of the full size Huey to HSM 2013 we will have more of a Huey Fest!

Ahhhh, memories. I did love demoing that model for Al - even flew it indoors once!

Looking forward to seeing it in the air again.

If you look real hard at the middle of the red strip on the left side you will see my Thumb print .. I guess it was a bit soft .. Al forgave me though ..

I had the great honor along with Jim of flying that machine for demos as well. The machine is mesmerizing in the air even when your the one flying it! One of my all time favorites.

Still surreal to think that Al has passed. Im sure each of us close to Al recount memories as we see the machine.

Jim, nice to see your input, looking forward to seeing you again. As soon as work settles a little bit.....

Tim, why am I not surprised.....LOL

The Huey hovered around this weekend - it needs a new fuel pump which is now on order. To give you an idea of size, look at the picture below and keep in mind that the yellow heli in the foreground is an 800 size Robbe Cuatro!

The Huey flew again today! New fuel pump and she was good to go. What a joy to fly and what a wonderful model. Thank you Al Wert! You were (are) a master builder!
