I'm always painting hobby stuff so I really enjoyed this thread. I must've missed the part where you identify the clear coat you used. Is it also a DupliColor acrylic?

Glad You Like Them!!!
Thanks Rckfish!!! Appreciate the "plug" too

AzHyper, yes the clear coat used is the same brand as the paint..
I have found out several times in the past that mixing and matching causes a LOT of unwanted problems... and they don't usually show up until that VERY LAST STEP!!!

Glad you guys like the post and hope it helps answer a lot of questions when it comes time to paint those blades..

Thanks, Stan

I took a little different approach to mine (all roads lead to Rome) I used the dark grey primer, then I'm doing the yellow stripes over that, then clear to seal it. The primer was a closer color match to the real blades. So far I've been lucky. After primer the blade weights are still spot on. Stan, you should cut/paste this info into the "scale tip of the week" thread. It has been very helpfull...

Good Going!!!
Barry, glad to hear it is working out for you...using the primer as you base color is not a problem.. at leas with this paint... it just seems to work so nicely...
So the only difference is that you will be skipping one step..and that is all good... just make sure to remember after you tape to spray a coat of that primer to seal the edges..and you should have a very nice looking set of blades real soon..
Checking the weights between coats is a very good idea..the closer the better..
I am going to add one more step as the last step.. that is to let the blades dry for 48 hours, and then recheck the end weight to make sure that they are still all the same..and if it is needed you can just shoot a little more clear on the bottom...

Thanks both Barry and Peter...OK, I am going to try to cut and paste this and see if I can list it under "stotw"

Thanks Stan Well, here they are. All that's left to do is the clearcote and balance. I used fine line automotive painters tape for the stripe borders. It seals the edge perfectly, with zero edge bleeding. I also cut penny sized pieces of tape to cover the blade root. That way I'm not scratching the paint off the blade root every time I install the blades. All in all, I think they turned out nicely. Thanks to everyone who contributed to the thread.
Barry
P.S. I left a little teaser in the background in 1 of the pics, just for you Stan...

Thanks for posting up in the tip of the week thread. maybe we should rename it the tip of the day, hour, or minute...

The "RED" belongs to my MC 700 size AS350 that Ken Romar (Stunt4Fun)just painted. He did a great job on the heli and it looks awesome! The blades that I just painted are going on this heli. Here she is in color...

Stan:

Hey Ken, I painted them, then weighed them on a gram scale that is capable of accuracy to .1 gram. I'll double check the spanwise balance after painting. The quick and easy way to check the spanwise balance is to make a fixture that holds the blade at the mounting hole, then rest the tip of the blade on the digital scale, then check the weight at the tip of the blade. Or, you can set the blade on a dowel and move it around until it sits level, mark where the center of the dowel is on the blade, then make sure they all balance at the same spot.
