Why didn't you get the 4010 duo?

To hover is divine, the alternative is rather PLANE.

Maybe I should have but honestly my Hyperion 720Duo does everything I want except 8 cell. I thought I'd save a few bucks - and get something that is new on the market

The $80 more for 4010 isn't too bad just decided against that.

EDIT: and it's lighter: 910g vs 1470g

Yeah the size of the 4010 is what I don't really care for, I like the 3010b's for their size.

The 308B looks to be a great charger too. What power supply will you be using?

I'm holding out for the new Cellpro Dual Powerlab 8x2 myself. It's expected to be available by the end of this month.

I have a Meanswell 600W 24V but I can shut it off with my 720Duo. I'm looking at other PS now, maybe build a pair of Dell PS's but I like the idea of the eFuel 1200. Several of them here in our club and everyone who has them likes them. It's a good match for the 308Duo from a power rating standpoint.

The eFuel psus aren't very efficient. They also lack active power factor correction. I'm fairly certain most server power supplies can outperform them.

Interested in how you like the interface compared to your Hyperion.
What all comes with the 308 duo?

Just started messing with it. So far the navigation of the options is a lot different than the Hyperion or my i206. Took me a few minutes of stabbing at it to get it started on a 'storage' cycle. But now that I hve it going it's pretty easy. I really like that it easily shows IR while running for each cell and total. It can record the data to a microSD card. It has a full size USB port in the back for charging at 1A - keep the droid topped off while flying.

The 2nd picture shows what came in the box other than the big parallel board. I'm glad I bought the optional EC5 to bananna plug cable so I didn't have to make that to plug into the power supply. They should have had that in the box but instead provided a cable that has the EC5 with bare wire on the other end. Minor but annoying if I didnt have that cable.

I do have a real problem with the balance boards that were included. one, they are only up to 6S and two the harness to connect them to the charger has the wrong end on one side so I can't use them yet. Good thing I got the parallel board for the 308B so I can try this.

Those balance boards are pretty disappointing since it is an 8s charger.

I'll call PRC and see what they have to say.

BTW - SkyRC is releasing a new version of the eFuel 1200 with pfc and a usb charge port. I think I'll pick one up when they do release it. So far all the eFuel's in our club have been doing a great job and can run PL8 and 4010's, maybe not to max capacity those chargers can run but 'good enough' to charge a pair of 5300 packs quickly.

What options do you like for PS other than converted computer PS? Meanswell seem to be good but expensive and no voltage control or meter display plus the exposed voltage connectors are concerning.

I have a 1200w junsi/icharger psu. It's a little noisy at full load but otherwise it is nice. I think the quietest high power unit is the meanwell rsp 1500w.

I just received my Meanwell rsp-2000-24 yesterday and all I can say is it is impressive. It is very solid. There is a positive capture for the line in feed and a plastic snap cover to keep anything from contacting the 120v. I see what you are saying about the exposed 24v output terminals, but I suppose if you use ring terminals and keep a tidy charge box setup, there should be no cause for concern. The output lugs are very sturdy!

That new efuel looks nice. I think I would still prefer the Meanwell since it has a larger diameter fan and should be quieter. Also the meanwell would be capable of driving the 308 to full output without any issues. Something I would do is get the 27v instead of the 24v version of the Meanwell if you choose to go that route to reduce the current draw a little.

Just get some big shrink wrap and put it over the terminals. That should keep them well protected.

I used it a bit this weekend and am really getting to like this charger.

I was wrong about the balance port cables. They did ship the correct cables with it, I didn't look at them correctly. The balance boards only go up to 6S though and that is a miss in my eyes. I tried calling PRC Friday afternoon but was not able to get a hold of them, sure they were likely very busy.

Very happy with the purchase. It's taking a bit to figure out the programming but so far I have been able to do it without opening a manual

I just got my two 308Duo's in as well. Can't wait to use them. I got them since I prefer to have two dual-port chargers since I'm not a fan of parallel charging. Two 4010's is just crazy overkill with their size. Two of the 308 Duo's is perfect and fits in my existing charge case. I'll report back after I get some time on them in Boston at the Phenom this weekend.

Here is the meanwell tucked under the Powerlabs. Still plenty of room to customize. Hey Art! We are going to have to test this thing out when you get back from Phenom!!
