Step 1 complete. Downloaded, extracted with WINRar, and installed on my laptop. Next comes breakfast and then a chance to check the new SW out in one of my helis that just hated V4.0.

Toad -- I have noticed on previous installations that the parameters I'd previously set were still there.

Go through the DIR stuff, double check your rudder settings, and recalibrate the throttle/pitch, to be safe. Since your radio and mechanical stuff is already set up, this will take about 5 minutes to do before flying.

I installed it on mine but haven't had a chance to fly because of the rain but I actually haven't been back threw the settings yet but they all look like they are right where I left them so not sure if I even need to. I'm hoping to get a chance to check it out tonight after the kids are in bed. I've got to read all the direction because I don't remember how to do it.

It took all of about five minutes to update. I got a chance to hover a couple of batteries out in my driveway before the rain rolled in. My 450 Pro V2 that didn't work well on V4.0 seemed to be quite happy with V5.0. Perhaps tomorrow the weather will be nice and allow some real flying. The next target will be my 500DFC conversion.

Woo Hoo. V5.0 is a WINNER.

This afternoon I had a chance to get out and give version 5.0 a real test.

I began with my 450 Pro V2, converted to DFC last fall, and which, no matter what I tried, simply abhorred version 4.0.

With Version 5.0, the 450 FINALLY flew well, had a completely controllable, and solid, tail rotor. A tail rotor that behaved as it should, with clean, crisp, stops, and hold like a Gila monster.

Overall, in the 450, version 5.0 flew exceptionally well.

So well that it encouraged me to load version 5.0 in my 500, converted to DFC over a year ago. I have been flying version 4.0 in this heli since spring, and have just lived with some of the odd tail rotor behavior. With the installation of V5.0, the tail on my 500 has never been better. Back are the quick, crisp stops, the tail holds well and once again I have confidence in the heli, no matter which direction it's going.

OK, so it worked in my 450 and my 500. What about a nitro heli? I tried V4.0 in a 600 Nitro Pro last year, and found it awful. Building upon the success with my 450 and 500, I loaded V5.0 into one of my 600 Nitro Pros. Fired it up, took off, and voila. Great flying heli, well-behaved tail rotor and NO bad habits.

Pushing my luck (?) I next loaded V5.0 into my 700 Nitro Pro. The next two flights were scrumptious. V5.0 is a keeper.

Overall, the feel of the heli is solid, smooth, and natural. There is no robotic feel when flying, maneuvers are fluid, smooth, and solid. In the four helis, I experienced no odd tail behavior, no wag, no blowouts.

Version 5.0 IS a KEEPER.

Thanks to Align for keeping the 3GX FBL unit alive, and for not abandoning it in favor of their newer GPRo/4GX unit.

Thanks for addressing the V4.0 weirdness.

If you have the chance to load V5.0 into your 3GX unit, do it. You'll like it.

Thank you Dave. thank you

You saved me the time and aggravation of V4.0.
I'll load V5.0 on my heli's one at a time starting with my 450 and 500 then 800. I'll report back as I make progress.

I have not had to mess with the Rudder Lock Gain, or any other settings. You should adjust the tail linkage for zero yaw at hover in Normal mode, then reset the left/right tail slider limits.

With V4.0, in addition to the zero-yaw in Normal mode, you had to mess with the rudder lock gain AND the transmitter-set gain, and still could have problems.

It's time to update my entire fleet. Four down, six to go.

I flew my 450l dominator on 5.0 and it flew fine but it flew fine on 4.0 as well. I think the elevator wobble that I noticed seemed better but wow when I was doing a high speed full collective pitch pass and pulled back on the elevator a little and it went straight up, instantly like it was out if control. I have a feeling I need to recheck my pitch settings or something. I probably have more than eight deg. on the ele and aileron or something. Probably just needs some tuning.

I check pitch with my iphone using the level thing so probably not the most accurate and it's kind of hard to hold it steady but the gauge seems very accurate in the phone.

Hate to throw a wrench into the works, but...
I am now having the same issues with 5.0 that Dave an many others had with 4.0.
I have three helis that flew perfect with 4.0 (450 pro, 500, 600 pro), none of the tail issues seen by most.
I have now upgraded my 500 to 5.0 and it now has the same issues seen in 4.0 by others.
I haven't tried the other two helis yet, so I can't report on those.
Back to 4.0 for the 500.

Wow, I wonder if its quality control that's causing these issues, like maybe the gyros are not lined up correctly in the housing?

It seems this is the same issue for years, people complain about a problem with the 3GX that 30% are having, Align then drops a new firm then the other 30% are now affected by the new firmware, while 40% believe there's fly without mentioned issues.

Put the gyro in normal mode. Hover without adding any rudder. Fix the yaw by adjusting your linkage. Go back to heading hold mode. Reset your endpoint limits after the linkage adjustment. Mine required no other changes.

Guys I've downloaded and installed V5 software on my lappy,

I connect my 3gx up to it and go for update, new box opens up

Select v5 update and open

Update screen pops up, and shows USB detected,

Press update button and all I get is connecting.......

How long should this take as I don't seem to get past this point.....

The 3GX needs to be running on a RX with the complete TX RX system running before it will update.

Dave, you sound just like the people who were claiming your problems with 4.0 were just setup issues.
I test flew the 450 today and 5.0 is working fine in it.
I won't be able to test the 600 until Saturday.
The 500 is down for maintenance, will work on the tail when it's back in the air.

I thought about that. But I am NOT having to mess around with the rudder lock and gyro gains.

Hey Buddy.

In part they were, it's been proven that with the tail setup in rate mode and the delay removed when using V4 fixed the tail bounce / over-shoot issues. So in effect it was a setup problem.
We now have another firmware that has been tuned differently again and so some tricks we used in the past may not work so well or work better even.

V4 obviously wasn't as good as V5, but a lot of the problems reported (apart from the annoying twitching of the controls) was basic setup errors.

Speaking of twitching, V5 has removed this? I've not seen any reports of this with V5 users so far.

Am yet to see V5 and have a go, chose to fly for myself at the weekend and visit a private field. However many people are reporting great things, so well done Align.

I just got around to update my Trex 250DFC to 3GX 5.0. This heli has been flying great with V4.0 w/o any issues.

Upgrade went smooth. It kept the settings but I have gone through full DIR set up and tail setup, including resetting fail safe(always remember to do this). Twitching on cyclic servos is minimum but is still there. I'm using Spektrum DSM2 satellite with JR X9303. I had the heli sit on the bench for a while with throttle hold off. I have not noticed any throttle twitching.

I just flew a few packs this afternoon/evening and not sure if I like this update on my 250. With the ELE/AIL gain at noon position, I was getting a lot of head wobbles in fast stop or pitch pump. I had to reduce them quiet a bit, almost like how it was on V3.0... Tail seems to be okay but not as crisp as V3.1. Cyclic is very slow around the center stick at default, reminding me of BeastX.... I'm not very impressed with flight characteristics. I feel like everything I don't like about BeastX is now on 3GX..... ugh.... Maybe Align was listening to too many guys raving about BeastX who couldn't figure out 3GX.... I guess I will try to tune it with software setting for a bit tonight and if I don't get there, I will just revert back to V4.0.
