Anyone know if this is possible?

I can do it the other way, by voltage divider and rectifier bridge.

My rear tail lights on a Mazda 6i sport touring on the
incandescent bulb have gotten so hot as to melt the lens.
The lampholders are so burned up that a 25$ LED tail light
in my 3 wire configuration won't light with consistency.

SO: Instead of spending 300$ for 2 aftermarket LED Assemblies
to plug into my burnt sockets, which ain't making me happy,
I devised a little nor gate circuit to illuminate the 2 wire
12v LED Strip I have actually stuffed inside the lens set.
Installation took two hours. I spent $44. Need that relay
for the turn option.

Pic in my gallery. U bright or dim~

If incandescents are burning up, it's probably due to a poor electrical connection somewhere causing some avalanche discharge(arcing) with their consequent high currents. It is this that are killing your bulbs and sockets. Get your house in order

Thanks Master Guy,
It's a known issue with these tail light assembly
in the 2009 version. Grand Touring has LED assemblies.

Mazda will not address it. All over the internet
where people have stop and go driving. Leaving the
Brake lights on too long is a ventilation issue when
the car is stopped.

I wonder if I wrote a letter to the CEO Mazda NAO
Irvine, CA if he would send me the LED sets! Yeah sure.

Betcha there are a lot of 'used' ones on flea bay.
Is your house in order sir?

you can almost certainly make it work. not sure what you are asking....if you've come this far, you surely know what to do next (tinker with the coil, possibly add a resistor, but maybe the lower dc voltage will be fine)...

anyway...if you *have* to use the ac coil....you may run into long term reliability issues, which isnt good for brake lights (but of course they already are not reliable)

have you considered a small inverter....(like to drive EL wire for instance)....it would be trivial to step down whatever AC voltage the inverter puts out to 24v.....i think this would be better for ultimate reliability of the coil.

do it inverted
