.....and it's even more fun today with all the advancements in technology. I was 22 years old in this video and I am 54 now and still loving it.

R/C helicopters ROCK!!

Who else loves to build and fly like I do and what's your favorite helicopter?

Thank you for your contributions to this hobby. I have owned many different helis over the past years but it still amazes me every time I look at the Competitor. It is definately something special.

I am assuming the aluminum looking ball on the side is the muffler??yes,no??

also that was some impressive flying in the video, very smooth and controled.Did that have any type of tail gyro or was that pre-gyro era?

The hobby shop in Lancaster has a few of those hanging from the ceiling and every time I go there for fuel,I try to buy one....not for sale.lol....

At least the tail rotor is on the right side which is the left side

That's a great video.

In the early 80's, I remember walking by a hobby shop in San Anselmo, CA, and seeing an RC heli in the window. I don't recall what it was but I do remember drooling over the thought of flying one!

Started flying a Concept 30DX soon thereafter and then a Kyosho Nexus, Bergen, Fury, Raptor, Robbe, Trex, Logo, Blade, etc.

Love my Trex 700 and Logo 800 - both on vbar.

Pretty amazing how far the hobby has progressed both in terms of electronics and mechanics.

love how flybar/nitro helis can have so much character, its almost like they are alive and gracefully flying unlike the computer fbl electric helis of today which bore me to no end.

I don't think the one hovering inverted on Calabasa Rd has a flybar....Not sure.

I think Robert was one of the NOBAR pioneers?

Watching that video makes me wonder if he was using "switched inverted"?

Damn that ground is hard! When's the right time to get out of this money sucking hobby?

Hubert Bitner's Horizon 60 was a NOBAR pioneer long before GMP. The Horizon was the brainchild of Helmut Holder. John Simone Jr., used to fly an American RC Commander with FBL head and Dieter Schluter also had FBL heads years before the Legend. In the video Robert was using an Unlimited/Universal 8 by JR and indeed, used the switch. Back in the day we all used the switch.

I had several Competitors, Pro's, Shorty's and full body machines.
