I was wondering if anyone is using the Futaba FASSTest Telemetry Magnet RPM Sensor on the back of the OS 105HZ engine backplate to correctly check the headspeed of the heli instead of using an optical tachometer? If this gives a continuous RPM readout on your transmitter by dividing by the gear ratio you can find the current headspeed correct?

Math is math. If you keep the head more or less loaded and in steady state, headspeed with be engine rpm/teeth on the maingear. Should work fine. In actuality, electric loggers that show headspeed are doing this same thing.

Thanks for your reply Ben! I have been always looking for something better then an optical tach to check the headspeed and have been wondering if there was something that could be actually attached to the heli and display a readout to your hands. This could make telemetry even more useful. I imagine though that the radio (Futaba 14SG) will only display the max and min values attained during the flight and not a live readout is that right? I am sorry to ask this but I'm still in the process of buying this radio and have no actual experience with telemetry.

No, the telemetry is live and should give you a continuous read out.

With the newest update you can log it also.

I have the RPM sensor attached to the main gear at the last stage but at the backplate is perfect also.
you can put in a gearing factor so you have the real rpm on the display.

How do you log the telemetry data on the 14sg? I didn't see anything that mentioned it.

Sorry, i have the 18MZ, you just plug in a SD Card , it writes it there every time the telemetry is updated.
