Inline regulators just drop the voltage by about 1 volt.

A lipo is what? 8.4 volts at the beginning?
So yes,the servo will start out on 7.4 volts or so.

I prefer using a servo that can handle the voltage or a full fledged voltage regulator.

I literally never use the word literally right.

Not exactly.
Cheap diodes being used as regulators will drop your voltage by a 1 volt. Not the best solution.
The right regulator will do the job just fine.
I have used this regulator for a few years without a problem.

I should have been more clear about that.

Since his inline reg is showing 7 volts,I assume it's a cheap diode reg.

Invest in any one of the three that I listed and you will be happy with the output.

Note that rstacy's second recommendation was recalled. Don't use one unless it has a white dot on the back - the replacement. The first batch failed and made for interesting hovering - rebooting.
