I have finished building the airframe. I examine the head and notice that when I wiggle the main blade up and down, there are quite a lot of vertical play on the main blade grips. Is that normal?

No.

I guess it all depends on what you mean by a lot but when I flex mine by hand I can just barely tell that there is any movement.

Yes, I think that is the same problem. So, just leave it as it is?

If I flex the main blade grips, the play is just a little bit. However, if I flex the main blades, then it is a lot.

Mine is the same,i changed to FBL and the play is still there,as far as i know there is no cure, many have tried different ideas of adding different size shims, however it does not seem to effect anything in flight.

If you are talking about the play in the feathering shaft, I used two shims on the spindle and one small one behind one of the screw and washer that goes in the end of the spindle to take out the play.

If you skip me I can't play!

I wonder if this play even matters once you are spooled up and the rotor system becomes "rigid".

I have the same play BTW.

Does or doesn't, I had the time so I tried to make it right, each to their own.

Why would you need the little washer at the end of the spindle? The ends of the spindle are ground to size for the 6mm. ID. thrust bearings.

Just thinking out loud. I wish that the play wasn't there. I tried to take it out on mine, but failed.

Why? because I didn't have the exact shims that Nick and whoever uses, and because the washers/shims that I used between the spacer and the grip bearing made the assembly too tight and notchy. So I used a Rap 50 tail shim on the end of the spindle to give it the necessary play. The shim is the EXACT same size as the end of the spindle and causes no issues with the thrust bearing as its thinner than the thrust bearing which still rides on the spindle.

It is a viable mechanical fix with what I had to use. Some times it doesn't hurt to get creative!

I did it this way and it's just as good as the Titan 50SE. It's like Navyraptors. But, No Loctite on the bearings.
