Donnie you need to get a picture of all your Super Scales together for a photo!
Would love to see your arsenal. I grabbed a group shot of my girls last weekend.
Looking forward to your maiden pics and video!

Donnie,

How is the canopy held in place? My guess is magnets and if so are they good enough for some wild combat missions?

I just bought one of these today. Just couldn't pass up the killer looks. Now I see yours I can't wait to receive mine.

1 thing I really hope I can do is open up the canopy to install a couple of scale pilot figures? Does anyone have an idea of where to get 1/8 scale heli pilot figures??

Don't know if I missed it, but what are you using for motor and ESC? Im about to give myself a birthday present. I wish they had better info on there helis along with pictures of the setup. RC Aerodyne puts a lot of work into talking about the real models but not the RC version they sale.
Your pictures have me sold on this heli.

I'm interested in this heli... I also agree with previous posts. The RCA website should have a bit more included in the descriptions/stats of the helis. It helps to know what the overall dimensions are, required motor KV, esc, etc.. The biggest question: "will it fit in my car"

They do say 4530-450 motor and a 120amp ESC with a 12S setup.

This is what I am going to use, along with a Skookum 540.

EBAY if you can find the McFarlanes...
I have 2 or 3 of the McFarlane's crew chief figures that I picked up from Amazon. I originally bought them to be pilots in my 600-size size UH-1, but found that they were a tad too small. My Huey is ~1:10 scale and the figures are 1:12. I think they'll be far too small for 1:8.

I am however going to put them in my 600 size Apache, as I think they'll still look okay in there.

By the way, you can still find the McFarlane's military series figures on Amazon and eBay, but prepare your wallet...

I am using a quantum 4530 500kv motor with a castle hv120 on 12s 5000.
The motor will just fit in the frame, I may need to trim a little off the front of the mechanics to get more clearance for belt tension.

Thanks Donnie. Im leaning towards the Align 700MX 470KV and the Castle 120 HV.
Did you have any issues with the build, or did it go together as good as it looks?

Well I ordered my pilots today from http://www.maffscav.de/helipiloten.html.

Here are a few pictures of them. Mine will have olive drab suits with American markings of course, but will look the same. Only problem is price, due to exchange rate they are approx. $155 each.

just an update for everyone thinking of buying one of these helis.

I got mine in the air before I did all the scale detail stuff just to get the mechanics adjusted and such. I had a vibration that I couldn't seem to get rid of nor able to pin point the problem obviously. After I have dismantled the heli completely, I was turning the mechanics in my hand while thinking. I noticed the head not spinning true. So I secured the mechanics down to the workbench and checking things out. Sure enough the main shaft is bent. So I took it apart to remove the main shaft, this is a major pain in the @$$ by the way. After removing I chucked it up and spun it some more, sure enough it doesn't spin true.

So this is where I contacted Aerodyne to see if they will send me another one. Sure enough they get back with me and said they would replace it at no cost to me all I had to do was send the old one back.

Now to some this may seam just fine, but lets think about this. I just spent $2000 on a body and mechanics, I have roughly another $1000 worth of electronics. Now I had to dish out another $7 to ship my main shaft back to Aerodyne just so they can look at it to send me another $10 shaft. (which cost them $1) Plus I have to wait probably 2 weeks for shipping both ways because we live on opposite sides of the country.

This goes one step further even. I ask them to contact me about this on the phone so I could just buy another one and have it shipped here while they sort the old one out. The parts are not on there site anywhere. So far no one has contacted me by phone or any other means about this, and yes I did ship my other shaft out already. Now it seams to be a waiting game.

All and all I am not very happy about spending this type of money and have a giant paper weight in my shop that is useless without the main shaft. Starting to feel like I got the shaft. I will definately keep all this in mind when I go to purchase my next scale model.

I spoke with Cliff today, regarding parts that I need for another unrelated build. He's down here in SoCal for the past 2 weeks. Maybe that's why you haven't heard back from him. Just a thought...

I had the good fortune to meet and chat with Cliff @ Darrel's and all I can say is that I think he is a very genuine guy and has a real passion for this hobby!!!
Also, I think he's a straight shooter and will get you fixed up. You have to remember where all these parts are made and that sometimes quality can "Slip through the cracks".. I can tell you about the exact same occurrence with an Align 600 shaft... so, not such an odd situation.
Give it a chance, I'm sure it will be resolved.

just another update.

I wish it were good news, but it is not.

Today is 1 week since I ordered a main shaft at my cost just so I could get it quicker than waiting for mine to return, evaluation, an replacement. He took my order, marked it priority mail. and of course I paid for this. Since I have received no tracking number, nor the part. Since I have always received a tracking number immediately I have a bad fealing the parts are not "in stock" as stated in big bold print on the heli pages. So I will set by and wait till something happens and maybe the parts will actually show up. Right now this is the most expensive display model I have ever purchased!

Does anyone know if the Goblin main shaft will work? looks like the whole design is from a Goblin.

I would never attack the guy personally, never met him, he could be a super great guy.

What I am concerned about is the way he runs his business and the way it affects customer relations. Look at the picture below, maybe this shouldn't be on the page were you buy the heli. To me this means anytime I need parts they are in stock and only 3 days aways.

Yes I'm sure he had no idea my heli would have issues, but I do expect it to be taken care of quickly. If I paid $49 for a toy heli than I don't expect much. I have $3000 wrapped up into this thing and can't do anything but "stand by". What I can and will do is remember when it comes time to spend the next $3000.

I have had issues with RCA in respect to customer service. I have found they are almost always slow to respond to emails and also getting out of stock items back in stock! I gave up on them and won't buy from them. Best of luck.
