If you have the drawing, Top of the fan hub has two milled slots, shaped just exactly like a kidney. Into those go two rubber softner's -

They are also shaped like a kidney. They fit into the milled slots - to reduce the motor impulse or resonant shock and vibration . Just like a rubber softer under the suspension of a auto.

On the END of the centrifugal Clutch itself : Are two locating metal dowels that insert into the rubber kidney softeners. The rubber kidney's have hole's to receive the dowel pin's. It's stinking M/A brilliant application

Trick is to get the pin's into the rubber's - and get the perfect vertical plum needed on the clutch. Pushing a pair of metal dowel's into a pair rubber hole's to soft mount a clutch can be frustrating.

Although done in industry all the time: The Weiner Slicker trick is to use talc . " Baby Powered "

Here's a pic of my original clutch bell issue on alignment - It drove me nut's because I new what it was - just not the trick. { TALC } You can see the non - parallelism. On the bench

That is not your issue: It's End Play tolerance of the main shaft - just set the vertical end play static of the crown gear.

Unless you want to talk radial and axial alignment ?

I'll need a Doughnut:

Sorry I forgot to answer the 1st part of your Question :

On the left is a single rolling element out of a bearing, on the right - those are nodular cast iron balls out of a grinding mill, they say absolutely could not be welded. On top of the element is a Starett Original analog digital Micrometer. :

???? What's in the Anvil of the MIC ??

make sure the black threaded spacers at the rear of the frame where the upper and lower frames get bolted together aren't cracked

Yes that is a great point. I had that problem years ago. I believe there are two spacers and at least one was cracked introducing vibrations . I had made a solid aluminum block that takes up the whole area between the frames and threaded for the four bolts. Much more rigid and stable and a better idea than the spacers.

it happened to me but both were cracked. I kept thinking something not right after playin with gear mesh and all that and going through 3 main gears i decided to pull the top half off to get a better look. when I took the 4 long bolts out at the rear the threaded spacers came out in 4 pieces.

Let us know how it goes.post again if you have any questions and we will try to stay on topic!!! Do check those black threaded spacers because I had the same problem as you with the tail gear stripping because of it.
