Time for a new cell phone... both have their pros and cons. Which one?

Samsung Galaxy III or the iPhone 4s?

Your choices are a 2 year old phone and a year and a half old phone? I personally would pony up and get something a little more current. New apps will be less and less functional on old hardware and accessories will be harder to come by. If you are getting this phone because it is cheap on contract, do you really think in 2 years when you still aren't eligible for an upgrade yet that a 4 year old phone will be usable? I'd spring for the S4, HTC One or Moto X if you want Android or wait about a month and get the iPhone 5S or whatever the next one will be called. Just my opinion.

Not much difference between S3 and S4. The I4s is closest spec wise to the S3. You could suggest the S4 vs the I5. By the time someone else responds, the I5s will be out.

Look into the newer phones. Battery life has gotten better for many of them.

I just switched from the iphone 4s to a galaxy note 2. I like the bigger screen, and the removable storage, and not having to use i-tunes. (Hate that itunes interface)... and it goes 2 days on a charge.

The main thing I don't like about the note is it doesn't have Siri. So quick, accurate and convenient. Just press of a button and say " call Ray" or "chinese food"....

If apple comes out with a note sized phone I could be back to apple when this contract runs out, but I am reasonably happy with this android doo daaa....

If you chose apple wait for the new phone or get the i5. The 4's are garbage.

If you are buying Apple, wait until the 5s is released then the 5 will be the 'less expensive' model.

If you choose to go with an Android they do have voice command similar to Siri. Lots of comparisons, example:

what ever phone you get it will still be the worst phone ever to some people

have a look at what the phone does, what you want to do with it and get the one that suits you.

Note II
My first and only smartphone is a Note II. I chose it because it is large with a large battery. I rarely talk on a phone. I use it for texting with my family, reading news stories and using available tools like calendar, calculator, camera, music, GPS mapping, etc. With the Tasker app installed, I have the Note II programmed to perform lots of automatic functions thereby taking advantage of the smart part of a smartphone. With the NFC tag feature and Tasker, as I go from house to truck to flying field my Note II automatically morphs to the ideal mode, not at all unlike flight conditions on my TX. For instance in the truck text messages from "favorite" contacts are converted to speech while all other texts are silently stored for later reference. If you do not like a device as large as a Note II, still look for a device with NFC capacity and support for the Tasker app. As a retired software engineer I find that a "programmable" smartphone is a fun tool that also can be used for ordering flying toy parts.

4s will have the newest iOS and the hardware is a bit less than the 5 but by no means will it be "unusablein two years". I am still using an iphone 4 and it is still on iOS 4 and I have no issues. I am coming up on renewal though and might get the 5 after the new iphone comes out. Can't say anything about the SIII. The S4 caught my eye and I have played with one. It is nice but I don't care much for Android, a bit over wrought and clumsy. The screen size is awesome but I can't get past the appearance of talking into a dvd case with these giant phones. I like the physical size and the ease of use of the iphones so that is my bias.
