I have been using a Talon 90 again after the first one failed. I used a castle BEC pro with it and to me as long as you don't use the internal BEC it will perform flawlessly. Maybe 60 flights on a trex 600 esp 6s. I don't do 3d and im still very new but I have faith in the esc itself, just not the built in BEC. Its not the Speed controller failing from what I read its the internal BEC that is toasting.

It's very simple, a 6s 4500mah pack drained to 80% in a 4 minute flight draws an average of 54 amps. That's only 60% of the rated amps. I can't imaging that's seriously their position.
but your forgetting that is with at least 5mph airflow.. where it sits its lucky to get 1

And that is an average, the peaks are what kill ESCs on Helis and CC ESCs are not all rated for double the average for peaks.

I bet there's always at least 5MPH on a heli, even in a hover...even under the canopy. Even if not, it's 60% of the rated load.

What are the peak ratings of the Talon 90. I don't see them listed. If it's heat that's killing it, it's more average current that's doing the heating anyway...at least with a good size heat sink like that. Usually it's heat that kills.
