What's with the negativity? If you have already seen it.. Press on, it's obviously not for you. I have had never seen it before this post and now I have watched it like 10 times.
Also, why would you judge the pilot and his student for not following procedure.. I'm sure the pilot checked everything he needed to check before he hovered above the trees, and checked NOTAMS before he took off. There was no wind as the trees were not swaying and he could ck the gauges with one look. Yes he risked a quarter million dollar aircraft for an $800 plane, but to me, it was worth it. We need more people like this, people not scared to do what is right because it may not be procedure.. Or in the norm.. I feel like he tought his student a valuable life lesson.. One that is priceless.

This is not a lesson that any CFI should be teaching a student !!!

We need more people like this, people not scared to do what is right because it may not be procedure.. Or in the norm.. I feel like he tought his student a valuable life lesson..

This is such an unnecessarily dangerous stunt, between catching a gust that could take you down, to hooking a skid on a branch. I just don't believe its the right message to pass on to a student that its ok to take risks like this.
Now, on the other hand did I think it was cool?

I'm not sure the bold letters and exclamation points are necessary, you obviously feel strongly about your point.. Got it. But it is your opinion, so if you don't mind.. Un-bunch your panties and calm your soul. Sometimes a certain amount of risk must be accepted to accomplish goals that a person values. Obviously, in this case, the pilot valued the little boys feelings enough to accept the risk in involved. The line between hero and zero is fine, but it is defined by success or failure, in this case he is a hero because he succeeded. I would have done the same thing, obviously you would not have.
