LONGER BOOM DIFFRENCE?
I have a rap 30 and wanting to try longer 50 size booms
question is besides a longer rudder control rod what else would I have to change to go to the longer boom for my rap 30...........am thinking the model would fly better
cuzz the longer boom would make it more stable which would make sense, any thoughts on this?

So you are looking at just running the longer boom with a 30 engine and 550 blades?

You would been the boom, tail control rod, and the longer belt. Longer boom supports would be nice but not required

You would also need the longer belt...

However, I don't think just putting a longer boom will make it more "stable"..... that is something you get by setting it up properly with the curves and end points, etc...

Now, going to a 50 size boom will allow you to swing longer blades (600's) and that would give you a more stable machine IF it is set up properly.

Here's another "however", though...... your 30 size motor is not going to swing those 600 blades very well..... you'll need to convert the rest of the machine to a 50..... ie, change of motor and gearing, motor mount, larger fuel tank, etc.......

And you don't state whether you have a V1 or a V2 R-30....... not all of the parts are interchangable between the two......
Been there, done that and old enough to know better.....

Like was said before, boom, belt, and control rod is all you need.

The longer boom won' necessarily make the heli more stable but it will give you considerably better tail performance by lengthening the tail moment.

Back in the day, my R30 had an OS37 with the 30 Muscle pipe. I put the R50 boom on it and switched to 570mm main blades with 95mm tails. It was no beast but it had decent power and flew very well. With good collective management and a well tuned engine, the R30 is very 3D capable :-)

not really...

I have done two and it's not that much work. I installed a 50 size engine, gearing, the longer boom and belt.

It took a short evening's work and it was worth it IMO...

since I have converted both to electric though and retained the clutch also.

good luck whatever you decide to do!

I have done it too.... converted my original V1 R30 to a V1 R-50....

BUT........ that was when the Raptor line was in full swing way back then....

The only reservation I would have today is the availability of parts. Definitely research that....

Since I got my Trex 600, it flies so much better that I got rid of all my Raptor stuff years ago and went with Align.....
