Hi guys

I have just bought a F550 & Naza V2 with GPS....

I am excited to get it all together and quite intrigued how it all works.

I got some Gens Ace 4s 5000 mAh packs. They have 'china' Deans plugs on them. Is a Deans plug enough?

Need to stop at another LHS to get some real Deans plugs. Don't like the copies.

Now make a plan for camera mount's, FPV, LCD, Goggles,.... If you don't like it, you will upgrade. If you do like it, you will upgrade. Friends don't encourage friends to fly helis! It can cause part shortages.

Hi

Yes..... the options are limitless.....$$$$$.

Just got home. Its nearly 22:00 and i'm about to open the box.

Think i will wait until tomorrow to get the soldering iron out.

I will follow my old rule of "anything done after 21:00 takes double the time later to fix it up....."

Regards
Paul

curious to see how your NAZA setup goes. I hit snags. I haven't been back to see if I can figure out the issues yet.

My setup will be here tomorrow! I won't have the camera gimbal in for the weekend, but I will get the 550 setup and flying well before I put a camera and gimbal on it.

I went with the Tarot gimbal, but it was a tough choice between that and the Arris. I found the Tarot in stock at CA Kitesurfing (of all places), so I ordered one. I also found some carbon landing gear that will make my 550 look like a mini S800 :-) Just need to convert to all black arms!

I'm not really interested in goggles, since I like to be aware of my surroundings when I fly. I have tried them and they are neat, but I still prefer a good LCD monitor on a tripod.

Is this stuff cool or what?

Hi guys

Building was fun and took about 3 to 4 hours. Something completely different.

The only snag i had was while doing the test to check the motors rotate in the appropriate direction. # 5 and 6 were dead. Swopped motors, esc's only to have it dawn on me that the Naza box must be setup for a 4 arm machine.....

I did the software download and setup. It look about 2 hours. I did have some small issues.

I struggled to register with DJI. It kept telling me the random code was incorrect. After about 10 attempts it worked.

During the Tx calibration, it is not clear which way the bar should move for the Elevator and Throttle. Watching the online video revealed it.

Back Ele / Low Th = Left
Forward Ele / High TH = Right.

I am using Futaba S-Bus and I found the channel assignment for the Aux functions is a little confusing. Naza only has 3 aux functions....

I eventually assigned Ch 5, 6 and 7 to Aux 1, 2 and 3 as follows.

Ch5 - Aux1 - Naza X1 - Remote gain OR Gimble
Ch6 - Aux2 - Naza X2 - Remote gain OR Intelli Orientation Control (IOC)
ch7 - Aux3 - Naza U - GPS / Atti / Manual and Forced Failsafe.

To get a Forced Failsafe, i activated a 5 point p-mix. Aux3 to Aux3 with the following values:

Point 5 = -50
Point 4 = 0
Point 3 = -50
Point 2 = 0
Point 1 = +50

Everything else was pretty straight forward.

I am using Aux1 ( Naza X1 ) as remote gain and reduced the endpoints to reduce the available gain control to 50 points above and below the recommended value. =100/-100 give a huge range.

Test fly tomorrow.....

Will report back.

Regards

Hi guys

Had 3 flights today. Wow, this thing is fantastic.

Super easy to fly.

I tested all modes. GPS, Atti, Manual, Course lock, home lock and forced fail safe. Everything worked as it should.

Now all i need is a iOSD, Gamble and GoPro.....

Congrats Paul! I'm still out at the field flying mine. I lost track of how many flights I've done. Nice having a genny at the field to just keep charging!

My Tarot gimbal is working better but there is still something wrong with the roll axis. The 550 and NAZA V2 are working flawlessly as is usually the case in my experience.

As an experienced heli pilot how can you stand to fly with IOC turned on? That would drive me nuts!

Oh, just got word my iOSD got delivered! Time to go install the video downlink system!

Hi ErichF

It is funny to see some of the 'old names' here on RR playing with GPS autopilot systems.

I wish i could do an F3C landing on the spot so nicely..... while talking to my friend, while drinking a coke....

Things have changed.

I have spent the last few hours looking at gimbals, OSD, etc, etc

Lots to learn.....

Have fun.

Regards
Paul

PS: would you mind PMing me some good shops names.

Well, I've been working with this stuff for many years at work, but never pulled the trigger on a setup of my own. Of course my dream setup is an S800 with Zenmuse, NEX7 and 50 Waypoint datalink! This is just to test the waters for something bigger I am planning...
