Yeah but many of the people who started this thread as hard core "nitro rules electric drools" folks aren't anymore. It's a slow decline.

Whether it's a steep or shallow decline, if the plane doesn't level off, it will make ground contact at some point.

You could say the same for helis in general. Right now, helis are dying as the multicopters take over the scene.
But that doesn't mean helis will die. Just not the current rage anymore.

We actually NEED nitro to stay around to keep electric's prices in line.
I guess when I win that case of nitro at IRCHA (like I seem to do every year!) I will have a bird to burn it in

I never thought of that. Let's start an "Electrics for Nitros" campaign. There's a mutual interest.

Good point...so both heli and plankers need to be allies some how...

I think we have a shot at an "Electrics for Nitros" campaign. But a "Planks for Helis" campaign is probably a stretch.

I do see how the airplane side of flying nitro can help keep heli nitro alive. It supports the engine manufacturers (OS/YS) and keeps the fuel coming. I'll make sure I continue to fly the OS46AX. The engine is phenomenal and flies every plank under the sun.

airplane side of flying nitro
Keep in mind of the C/L nitro flyers, the FF nitro flyers, the RC car nitro guys, etc.

Whether helis are elec. or nitro, other flyers will pick up the slack.

But it's the govt. regs that are more responsible for the price increase of nitro.

How do you fight that effect?

Ya don't.

I guess what I'd like to see is companies make their flagships as 50 size models. You get a lot more quality in the larger models but that could be brought to the 50 size too.

I love my SDX but the D3 oozes a lot more quality. A 50 size D3 could keep me in the game.

Course I also think 30 size models make sense but the OS37 and gaui nx4 didn't do as well as they should have.

That's the problem. Doesn't matter what I like or what bob likes. It matters what sells. We're ok right now but the boat has a leak.

It's simple, learn how to be resourceful.

I've flown nitro for nearly 20 years and have never had an issue sourcing reasonably priced glow fuel. In fact, prices today are only a few dollars more per gallon than I was paying in the mid-90s.

Over the years I've purchased fuel from the LHS, ordered directly from the fuel manufacturer (personally for myself), coordinated my own group buys amongst local pilots, belonged to a club that made club purchases, and purchased fuel at Toledo.

Reasonable options are available for those seriously interested in continuing to fly nitro.

If you're expecting to purchase fresh fuel locally, in your favorite brand, in very small quantities, at rock bottom prices, and have guaranteed availability then perhaps those expectations are in need of a reality check.

The you gotta pay to play mindset is going to further erode nitro. You can tell me I gotta jump through hoops but that'll just push me over to electric and I'm far from alone on that sentiment.

I'm not aware of anything in this hobby that isn't pay to play.

I was just sharing my nitro acquisition experience over the past two decades so those genuinely interested in continuing to fly nitro understand what options are available to them.

IMHO being resourceful is a life skill. Those genuinely interested in continuing to fly nitro will find a way accomplish their goal.

Those sitting on the coach waiting for the door-to-door nitro salesman to come around may be in for a bit of a disappointment.

I suppose it does. Many are aware of the bulk order commercial address options. Did it three times. It gets the price down a little but I am tired of it.

It's apparent that no "campaign" is forthcoming. Even with one, nothing would likely change. Thanks for helping me see I'm just blowing air. Really. No sarcasm. No amount of this will change anything.

Y'all can rejoice at my unsubscribe. Lol.
