I think you can use the 3G as just a gyro for that case but if you leave the FBL function on and use a flybar, I'd think the heli would get angry and fight itself into a crash. It would be interesting to try though.

A guy that I know has an old 30 powered Raptor. I doubt there is a conversion to flybarless. He was looking to buy a unit with a bailout feature. I told him to buy a new helicopter and update his old equipment, but I was wondering if anyone has even given it a try..

All he has to do is swap out the swash And head with another Heli with the same main shaft size.
I am sure there are success stories out there.

As far as I know the only fbl controller with bailout that works with a fb'd heli is the helicommand hc3sx (now renamed bd3sx). When you do the setup on the hc software you need to tell it in the rigid tab that it is a fb'd heli.

Cheers,

There is a conversion kit to make the 30 a fbl model

I know that others have the same kit for about the same price

With the HC3SX i have set up several.
Ypu can use bailout with flybar or even convert to "rigid" mode without detaching the flybar

The problem with converting an old Raptor is all the crazy slop you have with their old servo setup. It has so much play/slop it defeats the purpose of a flybarless head.

That is interesting that the Bavarian Demon 3SX has a flybar setting.

Flybar equipped helicopter with a Flybarless Controller
Actually, there are obvious reasons to do this.
It's been done with good results. I don't know about the 3G though.

The demons flybar settings are made according to their manual to put those imprecisions out of a flybar head.

Actually, there are obvious reasons to do this if you think about it a little.
There have to be more reasons for the pro side of this. Some of the negatives are:
(1) More expensive setup
(2) More expensive to crash
(3) You still have the drag of a flybar so it is not any more efficient
(4) Harder to setup as now you have a fly at setup AND a FBL controller to get right
(5) Very limited choices on controllers

You made the statement, all I asked for was examples. I am sure you have a flybarred FBL heli since the advantages are so vast. If you don't know of any, we understand Team MikadoUSA 480XXTreme, 550SX, 600SX, 700XXTreme, 800XXTreme!!
