Large Scale 700/800 Size AH-64D Longbow Apache Kit
Does anyone know of any manufacturers that may be producing a large scale (electric) AH-64D Longbow Apache fuselage along with drop-in mechanics that almost anyone can build?
A simple and reliable (pre-installed) raised torque tube for the tail, a moving 30mm chain turret and a stationary radar dome above the rotor head would be just some of the cool features. This may or may not be already in the works. This would be the ultimate scale ship!

Darrell Sprayberry bought Indy Helis and will have mechanics that are first class. Not sure if they have the longbow version or what exactly the differences are.

Andy,
From what I have seen and heard, the INDYHELIS Apache did not fly well. But, I'm sure it will be totally different now with Darrell's involvement. His link is saved in my favorites. It will be interesting to see what's ahead.
Thanks for the reply.

I saw Russ' apache fly at Dalton and it was smooth and solid. I think setup is the key with any model. Kerry also did well with the one he flew at ircha a few yrs ago and got 1st place (or was it the nats, cant remember )
Darrell has made a few changes to the design to lower the weight and make a set of mechs that has a bit more reliability to it.

I agree with Doc, set up is king. But, I spoke with Darrell a while back and he's making quite a few changes to the airframe. The tail section will be removable and he's changing the TR drive set up (from the mechs to tr). Whatever he comes up with will be well designed and reliable.

Wayne Mason had the nicest AH-64D with movable TADS, 30mm chain gun and saluting pilots. Even his Apache looked like it needed a lot of stick input to keep her steady.
Thanks, for the responses guys.

Wayne's Is an "A" model. the Indy 64 was an "A" model but the len mount 64 was a "D"
Wayne did a nice job on his 64, almost like a show or air show demo model tho, a typical 64 didn't look so nice and shiney

LOL, that's so true. You see so many military models that are just too nice. If you walk any military flight line, you'll see so many repairs, different color paint touch ups, repair panels, chipped/worn paint around door sills and window edges, silicone sealant applied with the techs finger etc.. I love it when I see a scale military heli with all of the little wear and tear marks on it.

my buddy Eric is an IP in the longbow, he got me out on the flightline at Hanche one day, not easy to get clearance and it had to be done when he was doing preflight with his students. anyway, I took a zillion and aa half of pics for the RCA apache I am building, thankfully its a "D" model (longbow) so I am in good shape. By the way so many people think that if it isn't equipped with the fcr on top it isn't a longbow, wrong, the missing fcr on some d models doesn't mean it isn't a longbow, only one fcr equipped ship is required in 7 on a mission, anyway as you can see from the pics, training and maintainance makes for a dirty machine even when its been washed and cleaned, a machine in the desert isn't very glamerous either
in the last pic, Eric demonstrates that the stabilator is useful for filling out paperwork as well
