diaster trying to get on facebook to contact other heli pilots
Hello Everyone

I am just wondering if anyone has had this problem or has any suggestions. I had a facebook account a few months ago but because my phone got wet I lost the account. I was not sure of the contact information and tried several times to get back on with no success. Evidently facebook considered all these attempts to log on as someone trying to hack the account and they froze it.

So I googled how to contact facebook by phone. Got several different numbers with phone calls all leading to guys in India. Nothing against people in India but I would rather speak to someone from America to help with my problem because it is sometimes hard to understand these guys.

Well it starts getting weird because they say they can help me, but it is going to cost me 89 dollars to get back my old account, which causes me to become suspicious. I really don't need the old accouint so I decide to start a new account and after getting it going, I am asked to provide a cell number which I do but because it is the same cell number I had used previously to try to access the old account it does not work.

However here is where it really starts getting strange. I start getting calls from the previous numbers of some of the technical support people I had called. I start rejecting the calls but they continue to call, one right after another. I call a new number and while I am talking to another guy from India about the problem, I am still getting calls again from yet another number I called earlier and these guys sound like the same guy. I reject the call yet again and continue talking to the new guy from India but in the end he is not able to help either. He wants to connect to my computer so he can see what is on it from his computer. I am not comfortable with that and tell him goodbye and hang up and then he calls yet again. I have now put my phone on silent ringer for a while and have gotten really frustrated. I am thinking of starting yet a new facebook account but if they need a cell phone number I am not sure what I am going to do.

Has anyone had any kind of problem like this before. And all I wanted to do was get contact information from Mitch Marozas who i meet at the Austin funfly earlier this spring.

Thanks Ryan
I have actual already tried that number as well. It was considered the safest number to call according to the web page. However there is no direct online support. I wanted to talk to someone right away. I get real nervous when people start wanting personal information and also asking for money, when there might not be a cost.

You do realize you can log in anywhere from any device, right? If you lost your log-in info, as evidenced by having to try so many times you got locked out, then that was you and you alone. You didn't lose it because you trashed your phone.

Why do you care what someone else wants?

If you're not a complete idiot and stay away from the stupid games, FB is completely safe to use. It's awesome for regaining and/or staying in touch with family and friends, especially old military buddies who are all over the world.

Yeah you got scammed, I tried to pay my bill on dish network and looked online for the phone number. I got a website claiming to be dish and called the number, they kept asking for alot of info, I got suspicious and told her no I didnt want to give out info because it seemed shady. Then she said she was with some other company and did I want to buy insurance? There was a . in the address that differentiated it from the real dish site. i called and told them and they werent even nice enough to give me a discount or something for telling them of fake website using their name.

It so easy to get hacked today. Last week my credit card company sends me a text asking me if I made a purchase in Seattle Washington, and I did not. As soon as I answered the text the phone rang and it was my card holder calling me. She instantly killed my card and overnighted me a new one.trex 700fbl cal30,minititan,, trx600fbl,trex250,logo 500,Velocity N2

Same here. Maybe things have changed recently, but I helped someone create an account a few months ago and was never asked for a cell number. Besides, as unbelievable as it may be, not everyone has a cell phone and Facebook/Zuckerberg knows this.

Thanks for the reply guys, but I am only on facebook because it is a easy way to keep in touch with some heli pilot friends not close by. That is the only reason I use it, not into a lot of social networking.

I am aware that you can log in from any device. I logged in originally on my phone and then on my PC and I don't think the account was hacked, I just think because of the several attempts by me to get back on they, meaning the facebook people, closed the account because they thought it might be hacked.

I became suspicious when the tech I spoke to on the phone asked me for 89 dollars to restore my original account. I don't need the original account back that bad, I just want to start a new account and go from there.

After calling 3 or 4 different numbers I goggled to get technical support I became kind of suspicious when some of the techs (all apparently from India and some sounding like the exact same guy) started calling me back after disconnecting from them. I was not getting the information that I thought was helping me, so I would hang up and at least one of the same numbers popped up 3 times in quick succession calling me back. Maybe they also have caller ID. If I reject the call don't keep calling me back, especially after 3 times. We did not lose our connection, I rejected your call. That means I don't want to talk to You now.

Finally I was told that my phone number I was using was now compromised and any yahoo mail or g mail associated with it would not work. So I have another idea, I going to try getting started with a new hotmail address and see where that goes. If it doesn't work I am just going to forget about it, at least for the time being. I don't have to use facebook but it can be a useful tool in staying in contact with some people.

Terry,
A new, generic, even "facebook only" (see below) e-mail will get you going. And, you do NOT have to supply any phone numbers to have a facebook account; so just don't supply any if you are asked at any point.

Once you are on facebook, be sure to review ALL of your account settings to clamp down the privacy settings. The default settings are much to open for those of us how just want to connect with family and few friends.
Finally I was told that my phone number I was using was now compromised and any yahoo mail or g mail associated with it would not work.
Huh? Who told you that? And why are you supplying phone numbers for accounts like that?

- John

"facebook only" as in that's the only thing you ever use it for.

Well, how many times does it take you to log in correctly? Why did it take "several attempts"? Can you not remember your log in/password?

Stubbs:this being ask for a cell number and also being ask for money makes me all the more suspicious. All I can say is the site itself sometimes ask for a number so they can text you a password to reset your account. It was the site on the internet that first ask for this info not the techs. Although the techs were the ones that keep calling me back. If you have never had problems maybe there was no reason to every ask for a phone number.

Also the reason I could not log on is because when I first created the account I did it on my cell and save the info there. Each time I went to face book j was automatically logged on. When my phone got wet I was not able to retieve the info, after several weeks and months i tried again, which caused several unsuccessful attempts therefore resulting in evidently what facebook thought was a hacked account.

John and Mike and some others, thanks for the meaningful comments. I will try them.
