I'm currently rebuilding a ys 80st I got, from a member, that was pretty much shot out. Replaced rear bearing, piston and ring, throttle body, carb and some gaskets...... Almost not even worth the rebuild...... So I have two questions, what are your thoughts on such engine and what's the best tuning strategy for this engine starting out? Thanks

I still have one. The rear bearing wore out and I R&R'd the motor, oiled it, placed in a plastic bag and it's now sitting on a shelf.

Start with these needle setting:
Hover 1.75 open 1.75 ~1.50
Low 1.25 open 0.75 ~0.50
Full 1.25 open 1.25 ~0.75

You'll be very rich with the1.75, 1.25 and 1.25. Adjust as necessary.

Yeah I've noticed with other YS engines that they run rich with those needle adjustments. I've also heard to keep the needle flush with the throttle barrel. Any rhyme or reason for this?

In regards to fastrc1's comment, thanks for the offer but I have a funtech pipe I'm going to try. And PJRono I'm looking forward to getting this thing together. I have tried setting the run out twice and both time's have discovered things wrong. The flywheel and crank were found to be out of limits so I had to order new ones. The crank, somehow, was out .0015
