I have this installed on a converted Hirobo Freya x-spec

My HS in normal mode for hovering is 1550-1600 at 45% throttle. Also I'm running mode 6.

After a 5.5 minute hover, the esc seems to get extremely hot. Do these esc's normally run on the hot side?

No they don't. My Jive 120 never did anyway, can you change your gearing? Running a higher throttle % would help. I never ran mine below 70%.

Mode 6 is 'continuous governor.'

Try Mode 4 'Helicopter mode' or Mode 5 'Heli + governor on fixed value.'

Tried mode 4, and it spins the HS way to fast.

As far as gearing goes, it is right where it needs to be according to Santiago, as I have copied his set up.

45% is little low, ESC needs to work hard to compensate all the power it's not using. Try changing the pinion at least one tooth less but I would try two teeth less.

What is your gear ratio and motor KV? Is it possible that you are running a tall gear ratio?

YOU NEED A HEATSINK ON IT

Is a converted Freya
Main 95t pinion 10t
Motor kv 520 <-yeah a bit high (500 to 480kv would be better)

The Jive can handle 45 to 60% just fine if you cool it properly, but you need to ADD the heatsink.

On Mode 6 non adjusted throttle points you have this:

Throttle 20%: 449
Throttle 30%: 801
Throttle 40%: 1154
Throttle 50%: 1506
Throttle 60%: 1859
Throttle 70%: 2211
Throttle 80%: 2564

Result is based on ATV not being calibrated, meaning maximum throttle is reached around 80%

You should be around 52% for your lowest, 60mid, and 67% for you highest.

=======================================================
If you adjusted the throttle end points:

Throttle 20%: 872
Throttle 30%: 1083
Throttle 40%: 1295
Throttle 50%: 1506
Throttle 60%: 1718
Throttle 70%: 1929
Throttle 80%: 2141
Throttle 90%: 2352

normal 52%
Idle up1 65%
Idle up2 75%

The motor has too much kv for that gearing, and it is even worse given that it is a KT versus a CC. Find something 500 kv or less. ESC demands aside, you have too much headroom in the system for a 10 tooth pinion in the context of driveline integrity.
If you pull on the model hard in aeros, it will likely tear the teeth off the maingear. Been there, seen that.

And do as Chago says and get the heatsink on there. A Jive will shut down at little over 200F.
